I'm not sure the term 'party interest' is accurate. The power brokers knew he was a tough sell, and they have been working 5-6 years to try to sell him. If the candidate is not white and Protestant, they generally don't come to the South to campaign, except for FL. And then they pick a Catholic for a VP, because the largest Catholic population in the South come from Mexico and S. America. This way, they can pander to hispanic voters without actually running one.
No doubt the ones we have now suck, but the anti-Obama rhetoric has been in full swing also since 2008. Shit gets blown way out of proportion, when the truth is, if McCain had won, the major fuckups in the Executive branch that went down over the last 4 years still would have happened.

I get the impression that even if Obama's opponent was Jesus Christ himself, Obama would still get your vote because of his skin color.
The election (not saying you, pewep) has made it painfully clear how alive and well racism is, on both sides. But, the amount of "white man" hate (read: not Romney hate) that I've seen this election has been disgusting.
