who truly has the upper hand?

It was supposed to close, just needed additional tweeks. I do plan on paying him. I did try calling him and sent him multiple messages but he came on after he knew my meeting on claiming that he had power outages.

Who knows

Never count your chickens before they hatched. I am sure you'll be more careful next time.

If you believe the developer is playing games with you just fire him and hire a more honest one.

Don't pay that piece of sh~t a thing. He mucks you about and potentially causes a loss of a deal and constantly changes the deal you had between you to suit him. What are you thinking?

Here's how I see it. Being a man of your word is a good thing and in life I wish there were more people like that but if he's not a man of his word that give you every right to renege on yours, remember you are not a charity you're running a business. It will teach him a valued lesson. It will also help you man up a bit and fight your corner a bit harder in the future.

I have agreed and I am not saying I won't be paying, was just voicing it out to see if it seemed like it was a ploy to get money.

So if I'm reading what you posted correctly the kid put you in touch with the client, then said he would do the work (why did he bring in a middle man?) and when you tried to close the sale it fell through because of the kid's shitty code.

If I have it correct, granted your OP was worded poorly, then it sounds like you're getting scammed.

well, I feel I flushed my money in the toilet.. Should have been my head. Ah well, stuck by my word, though.

I agree with what most people have posted. If you get fucked; fuck him back!

If anything you did (communication problems, etc) put the deal on hold, then you're only as good as your word and the coder deserves to get paid.

If his code is bad, why not offer him half now and the other half when he completes his end?

Everyone out there is going to try to fuck you one way or the other. Most people do it with a smile on their face and a pleasant demeanor, but it's fucking all the same.

Next time, contracts and favorable terms & stipulations.
