Yeah I love this country and all, but I gotta say news channels here (CNN, NBC, local affiliates) are a complete waste of time. I hardly ever watch tv but sometimes flip the news on during dinner. Nothing but stupid stories (e.g. the cat in the tree type stuff), a "big story on how to save 10% on gifts for the holidays", or celebrity bullshit. Puh-lease!
They hardly have any real world news events of importance. Sometimes I'm baffled by how uninformed people here are about current (or past) major world events outside of the US. I'll be like "oh, remember a few months ago back in [insert country here] when [major event] took place?" and they (random people or family here) look at me like "what?!? where? who?". Can't blame them.
It's all about what content teh media channels can produce that will return the most advertising $$$.

yea ... it is America's public that is to blame. I'm sure CNN would love to post nothing but true "news" but then they would get no viewership. So instead, they post about "Doctors say Miley needs a doctor NOW!" and "Mom sues over happy meal". The general stupid American demand is to blame.
