Why are my affiliate applications constantly denied?

I'm not completely green as far as SEO and lead generation goes. I've worked for several recruiting/staffing companies, have a few blogs that generate some traffic, etc. It seems that I can't get approved for any reputable affiliate. This seems like a stupid newbie question, I know, but I signed up for a few no-name affiliates, sent some leads their way and never got paid out. My money is in "pending" indefinitely until my emails are no longer answered and it just fizzles out.

So I tried to get with bigger names (from what I gather) like Hydra, Neverblue, Offerweb. I can't seem to get approved by any of them. Is there something I'm missing? Is there some unwritten rule where I shouldn't even apply until my sites get X thousand of hits a day? I'm confused. I like to think I carry myself somewhat professionally but I'm denied over and over.

Any insight would be appreciated.

There is no unwritten rule that I know of, when I signed up for my accounts at the networks a few years back, I had no issues. At that point I only had a personal blog that wasn't monetized at all. Really, the best thing is to call and talk to someone, that should get you approved.
 
Never had any issues signing up, having your cell phone on the ready when you put in the application is a must. I never initiated contact except putting my app in.

, yea I call them when they ask me too, usually they just want to hear your voice to make sure you're not a Croatian scammer or a total fucking gibbon. Once they know you can speak English and string more than two words together, you're in.
 
I'm kind of new to this scene, but I have been accepted for all the ones I applied, and in some I did not even listed my website.

You just have to make like you now what you are doing, that little form in the end that says "other comments" just put your stuff in there... what you intend to do, etc...

I also call them 24h later and get instant approval with that, they need to feel they can trust you! call them and show confidence ;)

For those specific networks you mentioned you're gonna have to call, I don't have any massive traffic sites either, I just tell them my ppc traffic methods etc. and I'm always sure to throw in that I'm on wickedfire, they seem to like that :)

If you just simply havent had any luck getting accepted from those guys, off the top of my head I can remember that I never had to pick up the phone to get accepted by Maxbount, a4d and CJ, so theyre worth giving a shot.

Eh, to be honest, I kind of have NO idea what I'm doing. I need to fumble around before I learn stuff. I haven't applied anywhere, but I plan to. How do I sound like I know what I'm saying? I've been reading for what seems like forever here, but I think I'd sound like an idiot if I had to spit out something confidently.

All the more reason to sign up to the networks that accept you easily, like the ones I mentioned above. It's never too late to start...
 
Maybe they are looking for affiliates to promote certain products, and you just don't have what they are looking for. Now, the network in my sig is open to anyone who simply wants to make money. The affiliate managers are superb!
 
At any given point and time there can be the proverbial 4 foot high stack of applications sitting on the desk. So as the ppl above have mentioned, picking up the phone and calling is the best way to help expedite the approval process.

Now if your applications are getting denied without so much as a phone interview, there may very well need to be more substance to your app. Without giving away too much to the teams of fraudy bastards out there, it may help to leave a brief but descriptive detail of your experience. It'll help set you apart from the "I do PPC" crowd.
