Why are so many sites for sale whose sellers "say" they make thousands of dollars a month?

I see 'em for sale for 200.00 with claims that make 2,000.00!

How can they prove their net income value?

Because they are lying.

Who would sell a site that made $10,000 a month and required no work to manage.

Probably trying to fool some noob and get a quick buck.

Although there are some similar situations that make sense - if a site is making $2000 a month, but is in a niche which is about to be filled with competition soon (myspace resources or ringtones, after shoe wrote about it), then it might make sense to sell it for a couple of grand.

I have some laughs having a look through sitepoint sometimes because I'll see these types of claims people saying for only 100 or 200 bucks you can buy a site which makes 1500 a month profit with no work.

I once looked at someones traffic stats they had posted for that site and it turns out he was getting an outstanding 600 unique visitors per month. I mean seriously on my worst day I can beat 600 per month, I highly doubt that site was making 1500 profit.

There are tons of holes in the stories that people have, you just gotta be smart and really look over them and try to have a look at the site they are selling.

I agree with Aequitas he is correct in all that he had said. When ever you are going to purchase a product you have to be willing to do some investigation and research to back up what the seller is saying. Don't go into a deal that sounds to good unless you have proof, because sometimes they usually are too good to be true.

depends on the niche, it is certainly possible.

Really that is highly unlikely at 1500 in profit at 600 visitors a month that would mean on average the person made about 2.5 dollars for every visitor. And that not impossible but highly unlikely.
