If you are married, why did you decide to wed?
It's largely a signaling device. It matters, culturally.
If you don't marry your partner, everyone who is married feels that by remaining unmarried, you are telling them that they were somehow wrong to get married themselves.
This makes them feel like tools, and they are immediately ill-disposed toward you.
My business changed dramatically when I got married, and again when I had children. There are all these things that seem like they shouldn't matter, but that have importance to the rest of the world.
When I got divorced, for example, my performance reviews at work dropped - and I don't believe my actual performance dropped at all. All my metrics were still on track.
