Why do people build landing pages that look like this?

I mean, its like they are straight out of late night television infomercials --
Whenever I see something that looks THAT cheesy and not authentic .. I'm outta there... do people really fall for this crap?

Why not build an eye-pleasing application with good content to lure visitors?

btw .. the second link is Dan Raine's new "adventure" .. sooo apparently this is the answer to the purpose of the 15K challenge blog --> Build an email list full of newbie internet marketers and get them to pay $67 for advice.

Why pay the 67$ when you can get all that advice free here on WickedFire?

I have tried pages that look like that and got a 40% signup conversion.

I will probably do a split test in the near future on exactly the same offer with the same copy and just change the "look" of the landing page - ie cheesy vs. elegant.

Will let you know how that turns out.
 
A sucker is born every minute. That's why. And not everyone is a savvy internet user. Thank God!:D
 
Looks cheesy? Are you creating a masterpiece or trying to make money? I would make a landing page with a giant picture of a dog taking a shit if it generated leads or sales.
 
My experience is if my designer makes 2 totally different websites, one that is really cool looking with great functionality and the other that looks like his dog shit on it, the dogshit one wins in conversion almost every time.

Took a long time and a lot of money to realize that I am not my target market.
 
As soon as I see that image of their signature down the bottom, I enter my email address straight away!
