Why Farmville Isn't The Least Bit Green

What if someone plays for 15 min then leaves their computer on 24/7

Not a fan of Farmville but your math shows the cons computer use, not specifically playing Farmville.

It's really an infographic about the dangers of 29 million people using the computer for 15 minutes per day.

I should have done it about how many will buy some berry rebills and how bad that is.

you're forgetting one KEY bit of info.

your assumption is that by playing 15 minutes this is time they wouldn't normally be playing, I'd wager a good sum of acai berry bottles that this is an extremely incorrect assumption, and that these people would instead be doing other things on their computer (namely- WORKING).

It's not an addition, it's a replacement in task.

You should've addressed the Hellblazer'esque "Commie" angle of the dangers to GDP.

I know, but wouldn't they be emitting carbon dioxide whether they were playing or not?

I just don't get the Farmville angle. Cool graphic, but I don't get it.

you are generating carbon on your websites, by visiting websites, and visiting this forum yourself so you just invalidated your entire argument..

what if those servers are powered by nuclear power? or if in the pacific northwest, hydroelectric? it's moot then.

why don't you mention how facebook isn't green while ur at it ... i'm sure its a hell of a lot worse than farmville

Yeah, no shit, and MySpace, and Digg, and the BBC, and CNN, and Fox, and MSNBC, and MTV, and ESPN, and Wickedfire, and AskMen, and Playboy, and all the pron sites in the world, and OMFG the entire innernetz is causing teh carbonz11171717111!!!!!

STFU and move on.

The number is the average carbon output per Kw/h. So it takes into account nuclear and other means.

which is dumb. major server farms could get their power from one chief source unless they go on battery or diesel backup for some reason, which could be nuclear or hydro. for all you know it could be 0. this is misleading as all hell.

this is not how numbers work

Which is exactly why all the countries in the world should get together and tax bandwidth. Any user going over their allotted amount of credits should be forced to purchase unused ones from Zimbabwe.

C'mon, we have to do this or mother earth will get warmer and kill everything. Do you really hate the babby?
