Why Is There No American Revolution?

To all the whiners in America: You have no idea how good you have it.

This is true - comparatively speaking America is probably in the top 10 for general life index.

However, as anyone who's lived in a fucked up country will tell you... give them an inch and they will take a mile.

i have lived in a VERY VERY VERY fucked up country and have also traveled all over the world and I can tell you.. the US, today, it is not in the top 10 places in the world to live... ok may be a number 9 or 10

I have done my fair share of world travel too. I would put it at 9 or 10 as well, it would have to yield to Norway/Denmark/Sweden/Netherlands/Aus/NZ/Can at the very least. Anyway, the US is huge and diverse.

What's your fucked up country? I grew up in Russia. Russia has everyone beat for corruption (except for DRC and the 'stans) and general wtf-ness, but all-out kidnapping/murder would have to go to Sub Saharan Africa and parts of S.A. Russia in the early 90s was a little too wild - that's when my family moved out.

thats the exact list I would have selected as well..germany too

i was born and raised in Cuba. During the "russian occupation :)" ( 80s, early 90s )

I think that for most people to want to revolt, something seriously bad must have happened to someone they know (torture, false imprisonment etc). I'm in the UK and the worst thing I know of was a friend going to prison for one year (good behaviour) for dealing cocaine. Say what you want about whether drugs should be illegal, it wasn't the end of the world for him, he's not angry / bitter, he has a future. I'm sure if he'd been tortured, things would be different. My point is that people tend to only get really mad when something bad happens to someone in their "tribe".

US Paying 30% less for german cars then we do in Germany...

... and you ask for a revolution.... you deserve the speed limit on highways :p

As long as we are the "worlds power" we have no reason. Life here is better than anywhere else in the world. I'm not saying it's perfect, I'm saying we live our lifes and we carry a big stick. It's like, fuck soccer, we have football, we do what we fucking want.

this thread is really stupid . If Americans should start a revolution , what about some other countries , like India , China , etc . You just don't get it . That's life ! Americans are doing great . Considering that , your threat sucks .

Rage9 said it perfectly

We do not revolt because we have free elections. DUH!

We are a democracy unlike some other countries that seem to have us by the shorthairs.

Boycott Chinese made goods.

You guys have brought up a lot of interesting points.[1]

At BeerNuts: excellent. I'd never seen that before. That's gonna stick with me.

At bobby_custard: lol sad, but true.

At SniperRyan: I'm gonna steal your last two sentences. They are now mine, and no credit will be given. Just kidding.[2]

At cardine: interesting phrase. Thanks for the link.

At ayzo: lol I'm a pacifist at heart. Flipping cars isn't my style, especially since they're private property. The non-aggressive stance of the Egyptian protesters is one of the reasons I marvel at this event.

At NickA: agree. I've been watching the financials for our cities. Gonna be an interesting year.

At fvaldes: about TPTB... you're more traveled than I, and I'm inclined to defer to your experience here.

At ly2 from WF: lol After stumbling on back boobs at that site, I had purposely forgotten about it. Thank you for the reminder.[3]

At NPressPlatinum: I know the IMF and others have been campaigning for SDRs in place of U.S. dollars for awhile.

At Linklover: A revolution in a functioning democracy[4] seems impossible for reasons expressed by a lot of the posters above, either directly or indirectly.

At all: apologies for not including quotes. I know it's a pain in the ass to read. But, as I mentioned, there have been a lot of interesting posts here. And I'm lazy.

[1] including the cracks about Jersey Shore. lol

[2] I'm not kidding. They're mine now.

[3] You bastard.

[4] Yes, I know we're a republic. Yes, I know the difference.
