There's plenty of original shit on indy films. It's just you wont ever hear about it because blockbusters are made for the American general public - fat, stupid, unoriginal pieces of filth.
They make what sells.

I'm kind of wondering if it isn't somehow our own fault now. I was watching crime tv last night and they were doing an expose on pirating and it kind of touched me how so many of the lowe-paid people on the set suffer because of digital theft -- stunt people for instance often get paid based on royalties, which was surprising to me -- would have guessed they were more of a flat rate kind of deal.

Was a real eye opener for me, not sure I agree with the whole pirating thing now that I saw the impact it has from the top down to the bottom.

But maybe the billions lost are translating into studios banking on proven formulas, like josearmando was saying.

And remakes aren't all bad. I mainly put up this thread because this is a record shattering year for remakes, and there's still lots of time left before it's over!

Billion lost? Hollywood had one of the biggest grossing years last year and this year. Those people that download movies, were not going go go see the movie in theaters. The movie associate have you people confused. Thoses executive producers and executives take so much money home, you would not believe.

It's hollywood's fault that they can't keep up with technology. Seriousy, they should allow movies to be downloaded from the internet as soon as they come out for a fee on itunes or whatever. They think they live in a whole where there is still no internet.

Even with all this "pirating", these clowns are still making bank. Why do you think they put a show on crime tv talking about the poor stuntman. It's like them stating oil companies need higher prices because the janitors and secretaries aren't making ends meet. They won't dare talk about the executive compensation on that same show (crime tv).

They like to take safe bets on a congested market, originality is scary, a remake of an old hit everyone has all ready heard of not so much. As for piracy they will start distributing movies differently once they stop making money, the fact that much hasn't changed indicates they are doing fine.
