Anyone been there? Thoughts or opinions welcome.
My wife and I are thinking of moving there from Austin Texas

We have been trying to move there for the past 2 years from Atlanta. Bad housing market has killed the sale.

Wilmington is a great area. My parents have lived there for the past 10 years. Good to great restaurants supported by the tourist market, great climates due to it being just off the gulf stream, and the beaches.

If you are an entrepreneur the labor market is soft and with the University right around the corner you will have lots of educated talent that wants to stay in Wilmington.

The drawbacks of the town are the lack of top quality entertainment coming through like you have in Austin, you have to go to Raleigh for that, and it is much smaller than what you are used to.

Hit me up on skype. I live in Wilmington and I used to live in Austin when I was a kid.

and TeeBird, if you can get the financing, I'm good friends with one of the larger developers in town who has 400+ houses and apartments in Wilmington. Just let me know if I can help you get out of Atlana

Thanks, but my Dad would kill me. He runs a real estate company in Wilmington. The suburb I live in just outside of ATL had the real estate market die on us. The turnover is up to about 32 months on inventory. We were going to sell at a loss but that made no sense if nothing is moving. A neighbor finally took his house off the market after going from 360,000 to 269,000 in a year and no bites.

Aim a bit further south if you can to charleston. Weather is the same, but the town kicks 309% more ass

@Dwight: We want to leave Austin to get away from our very large family. ALL of our combined family lives in or around Austin. We have wanted to move for about 3 years now. It is hard to leave Austin however because the economy here is so good. I am in IT, and the market for IT here is amazing. The opportunities for IT managers make this a very nice city to live in. The live entertainment would be difficult to leave as well, but I think it would be the best move for my wife and I

Wilmington is nice. If NC didnt have cold wet winters we would have moved to Wilmington but the beach sucks in the winter. Windy as crap!
