The way I understand it, everything still has to be approved in the marketplace to run so it won't be a problem. Metro apps on Windows 8 are separate to typical Windows software and are likely only to be acquired through the official marketplace.
Edit: All those features means what to the average user. I'm about to tell you. Absolutely shit.
Just because you cream your pants at this 'Windows CE core to a shared core with Windows 8' Billy Bob doesn't give a flying fuck..
>Windows CE core to a shared core with Windows 8
>Windows CE core to a shared core with Windows 8
>Windows CE core to a shared core with Windows 8
ahahah
Yes this is true, but we know what it means (I hope). If you followed the presentation, they stated they were not revealing the end user features at this particular event. Those are coming later on, this was more for the developers and nerds I'll hold the cream until then.
It's already way ahead in terms of end user features in my opinion, such as the Facebook integration which automatically syncs my friends with my contacts. I can go into my contacts, tap on one and it will show me their news feed\pictures from facebook along with options to call\SMS\write on wall\chat on MSN messenger (which is fully integrated, background running and the most popular IM in Australia).
It also syncs facebook events with the native calendar on the phone. It has similar integration with linkedin and twitter but i dont give a shit about those. Now full skype integration with native VOIP? nobody can compete with this shit. Apple is too proud to integrate so heavily with other platforms which is at the expense of end users.
If I stream a song in spotify, it will then show up in the native music player alongside my stored MP3's where I can tap and it will open spotify and begin streaming again. You don't feel stuck inside an app when you're using it, it just feels wide and expansive, even the in-app design is great, everything just slides across the phone in a wide panorama. Not to mention the back button behaves exactly as you would expect it to, allowing you to go backwards through any number of apps you had open, remembering exactly what was on each app as you go through it. Android's back button is fucked because apps respond to it in different ways. It's hard for me to explain, but anything else just feels claustrophobic after using WP.
Personally I love the design, minimalistic open spaces with clean lines. White text and vivid colours on an AMOLED = brilliant viewing. If one prefers an animated windmill background, faux textures and transparency then stick to Android.
