WiredTree down

Just had a nice conversation with their tech support "Sebastian" about why my fucking server was down for 9 hours. He was unable to give me any good explanation other than whatever it said in grove, which IMHO was a bullshit answer. I shall be migrating tomorrow.

where is wiredtree's servers located? could have that huge snow storm broken some wires and affected it?..not trying to defend them, just trying to figure out a reasonable answer.

The reason:

=======================
RFO for power issues effecting some clients

February 10, 2010
On February 10, 2:14pm CST, WiredTree experienced a brief, one-second outage at our data center located in CoreSite at 427 S. LaSalle in downtown Chicago. This issue effected one segment of our datacenter space and caused any servers effected to reboot.

The event occurred during a scheduled, annual UPS maintenance process that required the UPS to be transferred from normal operation to "maintenance bypass." Preliminary indications show the main switchboard supplying power to the critical load detected an "under- frequency condition" alarm, which resulted in the ATS (automatic transfer switch) transferring back to utility power and a one-second interruption of critical power. The cause of the "under frequency condition" has been identified as a failed generator.

The generator in question has been removed for immediate, emergency maintenance. As a result, emergency power is being provided by an alternate generator at this time. All scheduled UPS maintenance has been halted until the emergency generator in question can be repaired and fully-tested, estimated by close of business tomorrow.

We are deeply sorry for any inconvenience this has caused. Server uptime is as important to us as it is to you and you can rest assured that we will take every precaution to prevent this situation from happening again.

I would love to move, but I can't be bothered moving live e-commerce sites.

Next outage I'm gone. Fingers crossed there are no more.

@FortressDewey: Just running Zencarts on standard CentOS or whatever usually comes with them.

I did a little reading on ec2, not really economical pricing and alot of people have been having problems, maybe in another 5-10 years.

Go with Knownhost. 0 Downtime in the 2 years I have been with them.

I've been emailing back and forth with knownhost... needless to say, they're willing to do a few things wiredtree is not with ip's and I'll be giving them a go.

I migrated to KnownHost after another short unscheduled downtime with WiredTree today. Hopefully I will have much better luck with KnownHost. :thumbsup:

I got lucky with my WiredTree hybrid as it was on sale when I got it. I took my first 4 IPs, then months later I asked for the other 4 in my package. I ended up with two completely different B blocks between the two sets of 4 IPs. :)

I just checked out KnownHost because I like to have my next host in mind before I need them, but their pricing isn't particularly great on Hybrids. They seem to have some decent deals for managed dedicateds and VPSes.
