I'm building my first Phpbay site following the tutorial at eurekadiary and I can't change the permalinks. It takes about five minutes to load the page and all that comes up is this:

Customize Permalink Structure
By default WordPress uses web URLs which have question marks and lots of numbers in them, however WordPress offers you the ability to create a custom URL structure for your permalinks and archives. This can improve the aesthetics, usability, and forward-compatibility of your links. A number of tags are available, and here are some examples to get you started.

There's no box to customize them to %postname% or anything else. I've tried changing the permissions, deleting the .htaccess file, and deleting wordpress and reinstalling the newest version all to no avail.

Anyone else ever have this happen to them or have any suggestions to fix it?

Whoa, no need to mess with the .htaccess file or re-installation.

Just go into your wordpress, click settings over there on the right, and then click the "permalinks" link.

For the basic post name structure, choose "custom structure" and enter "/%postname%/" (without the quotes, of course).

That will result in yoursite.com/post-name

Hope this helps.

I wish it was that easy. I know it should be. When I click on permalinks it takes forever to load the page and when it does come up it only has the Customize Permalink Structure paragraph without any options to choose or any place to enter %postname%. The rest of the dashboard is there along with all the other links general, writing, reading etc. and they all work great but the permalinks - not so much.

Sounds really strange...what version wordpress are you using?

And your server supports PHP and MySQL? If so and you're still having this problem...then I'm afraid it's just out of my league!

Yeah, the support is there for PHP and MySQL. I'll try reuploading the php files as Glowleaf suggested. Hope it works.

Have the permalinks ever worked? Did they work before you installed phpBayPro?

I had an issue with permalinks which I resolved by setting the permalinks back to the default, installing phpBayPro, then setting the permalinks back to custom.

Maybe try getting an older version of WordPress and use that. Also, does your server support .htaccess? Make sure that the permissions are changed on the .htaccess or better yet copy and paste the code they give you into the .htaccess file.

Sounds odd though...
