WP custom field problem

I'm trying to get a custom field called "subtitle" to display in WP, but at the moment, I can't figure out how to get just the value from that field to output...I've looked over the docs here Custom Fields « WordPress Codex but my brain isn't functioning properly today :angryfire:

I use these plugins:
Custom Field Template: Custom Field Template plugin | WordPress?????????????????????? WordPress Go Go
Get Custom Field Values: Get Custom Field Values | coffee2code.com

then I would hard code this into the template:

<?php echo c2c_get_custom('Subtitle', '<ul><li><b>Subtitle:</b> ', '</li>'); ?>
