Trying to add a form to my site via WP. Is there a working plugin for 3.0?

plugins go into the wp system. Widgets are what you place on the sidebar.
There is a plugin called contact form 7 that should do what you're looking for. It's free, works fine from what I've seen.

+1 for Gravity Forms - it's the best one out there. Unless if you want to go free and use Google Forms.

Have had good luck with TDO Mini Forums.

Also a new plugin for Salesforce.com web-to-lead for WP, if you or a client uses that CRM system.
