WTF is this? Wikipedia asking for $



I have to chime in on this pointless yet interesting discussion.
Wickedfire makes me laugh my ass off, wait let me correct, YOU GUYS make me laugh my ass off.

Exhausted from working online all damn day, I read a post on Wikipedia and end up laughing. I love it, what forum gives you real LOL's.

I'd be glad to see the back of them.

Between wiki + google, they have destroyed people's ability to do proper, critical research. Seriously, you should see the number of college students who think it's acceptable to use Wiki as the main source for their essays and leave it at that.

Although they are useful for shallow general knowledge, almost all the stuff on there is biased and badly sourced. However a lot of students think it's authoritative, just because it's so popular.

My wife fails any of her students who use it as a source.

This is absolutely true. I think because we are IMers we have a deeper understanding of how truly shallow the info on the web truly is though. There honestly should be a class on how inaccurate the web can be.
 
Sure, it's annoying, but did you know that Wikipedia split tests various ways (tracking click through rates and conversion rates) based on different kinds of appeals? This one is the most successful appeal. You've just been marketed to.

Anyway, I try to give $20 every now and then. Like many have said earlier, wikipedia is one of the most important websites and one that I use daily.

Haters gonna hate.
