joking aside :)

Other issues and differences aside are we picking between a candidate who has money in the bank right now that was stolen and embezzled from the American people and a candidate who didn't cross his heart during the national anthem?

Yeah, between a rock and a hard place. It's a tough call. Really

You are retarded. Cherry picking random inconsistencies to conveniently support your conspiracy theories. Get a life... and then go fuck yourself.
:error:

Easy son. No conspiracy theory. Just an observation. Like Obama said, "Words are powerful." ... and so are images/videos.

Arrogant might be a stretch, don't you think?

Maybe....

So no, proper respect was shown.

Is it also modern day to be a Senator of the United States and be the only one on the stage not to give proper respect? He most likely forgot because he has shown proper respect at other times. It could also have been that awful rendition of the star spangled banner.:D Check out the guy next too him. It looks like he's going to have a stroke or something when the singer hits the high note.

as an Ex-Marine I find it disgraceful that a man seeking the office of the president thinks it's perfectly acceptable to stand there and twiddle his thumbs during the national anthem...

that's the last I'll say about this...

:bowdown:Props once again Poto and airforcematt. I have a deep rooted love for this country and the principles on which it was founded.

"We the people..."
"When in the Course of human events..."
"I pledge allegiance to the flag..."
"Oh say can you see..."

The forefathers of this country had great vision and I salute all people in the Armed Forces who fought to keep this country free and allow me to post my views freely.

"It is the Soldier," by Charles M. Province.

It is the Soldier, not the minister
Who has given us freedom of religion.
It is the Soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the Soldier, not the poet
Who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer
Who has given us freedom to protest.
It is the Soldier, not the lawyer
Who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It is the Soldier, not the politician
Who has given us the right to vote.
It is the Soldier who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protester to burn the flag.

Currently, there are three candidates that have a shot. As a lifelong Republican I am compelled to say that Obama is the best candidate out of those three.

But - as we have all grown accustomed to - this election is simply a selection of the lesser of the evils.

I don't believe that he meant any harm, (there are plenty of pics of him crossing his heart) but he should have the presence of mind to realize that an (un)action like that could potentially piss off a large number of his constituents.

Easy son.

I just think the whole topic is irrelevant. It gives off the same vibe as Republicans who try to make you look "Un-American" if you don't believe in the War in Iraq.

Next time you're at a sports game, take a look around you and see how many people cross their hearts during the national anthem. Many, many people put their hands at their sides, behind their backs, in front of them, etc... if he didn't take off his hat that would be another story. You could say, "well he's not an athlete, he's a politician running for the country's top position." It's a matter of what is socially acceptable and what isn't. He was respectful throughout the anthem and I think this is just nitpicking. Like I said, watch a sports game and you'll notice that "something is wrong" with the majority of Americans, according to your standards.

I live in Baltimore and if anyone has ever been to an Orioles game (or a Ravens game) you'll notice that during the "Oh say does that Star Spangled Banner yet wave" part the ENTIRE crowd screams out OOOOOOOOOOOOO to show support of the Orioles. In the grand scheme of things, THAT would be monstrously more disrespectful... but it is culturally acceptable now because the social norms are changing. Are men who don't take their baseball caps off inside being terribly rude in our day and time? No. But there was a time where it WAS terribly rude and disrespectful. So what about those years in between when the "norm" was changing. Were you terribly rude than? The point being... it's socially acceptable to do exactly what Obama did and looking at this incident under a microscope is counter productive (obviously many disagree with me).

Obama is running for President. Discussing whether or not he is patriotic because he didn't put his hand on his heart at least one time is nothing more than a distraction from what really matters... the ISSUES.

If you have nothing better to bitch about other than Obama not putting his had over his heart is pretty sad. I personally like it, I think everyone else is trying to suck up. If you give that much a shit about the national anthem there is something wrong with you.

Isn't it past your bedtime?

in 1933, anyone who did not raise his right arm in the proper angle to exercise the fuehrergruss was facing severe consequences in nazideutschland.

now, in 2008 anyone not covering his heart during the national anthem is facing severe consequences as well?

wow, i know the rest of the book...

Totally bullshit. I am not surprised what these monkeys came up with. Singing the anthem in the first place is already showing respect. HTF does not putting your hand on your heart constitutes disrecpect?

To disrespect would have been to sit and not mutter the words of the anthem. You guys need to wake the fuck up. Obama for President!

bzzzt...wrong

Not doing the Fuhrergruss might get you into trouble, but the wrong angle?
Just look at photos of fucking Adolf himself doing it half-arsed.

::emp::

Even if this is a "law", I don't understand how this can be taken as a slap in the face.

I've been an American for 28 years and never ONCE put my hand on my heart during the National Anthem.....never....ever....nevvvver.

I guess as soon as the guys over in Room 641A at Sprint see this post they'll send some Gestapo....errrr....police over to round me up and send me to a Concentration Camp.....or maybe some sort of 2008 version of an Internment Camp.....or maybe an all expenses paid vacation to Gitmo....

Fun times.

Come on, please tell me you are smart enough to see through this. This is like junior high nonsense.

Please, please tell me we're past this as a nation.....please.

No wonder TMZ and MTV prosper......unreal.

bzzzt...wrong

bzzzt... wrong NOT

as you are nitpicky as usual, you should know, that adolf hitler himself applied what is known as "fuehrergruss". whilst the hitlergruss had to be done by everyone in a proper way, hitler himself was doing a variant that was allowed for small and crowded places. he didn't seem to bother though that he was doing that all the time and as far as i know, nobody dared to tell him that he did it wrong. hence it was called the fuehrergruss.

so, my post way wrong with regards to the usage of the term fuehrergruss. i should have said hitlergruss. not that i care though, but it seems you did ;)

This would be bad if Americans had nothing more dire to worry about.

War in Iraq, and Afghanistan
Possible war with Iran.
Illegals spilling over our border
Record deficits and spending.
The Federal Reserve keeps irresponsibly printing money for Congress, devaluing our dollar, and contributing to inflation.
Veterans still getting screwed over with bad health care (Walter Reed...), and still going homeless in our streets.
A billion dollar War on drugs that is going absolutely no where.
United States has the highest incarceration rate in the world. A quarter of the world's prison population.

and here we are worrying about Obama's flag etiquette.
