WTF Petty theft

Yesterday I made my usual yard sale run with my GPS as partner and navigator. The model is a Tomtom One XL that I had mounted using a special vent assembly, and I kept the carrying case on the car seat.

After I stopped off at a few sales in nice neighborhoods I discovered that somebody had entered my car and relieved me of the case - worth about $30 - and left the GPS alone. WTF? They're too stupid not to take the good item?

You can't even stop off at a yard sale in a good nabe without worrying about somebody breaking into your car to commit petty theft. A sorry lesson for us all about the times we live in.

I hope the half-wit thief has a head-on accident and goes through the glass, winding up dead or disfigured. After he fetches $11 for the used thing on eBay.
 


I wish nothing but pain and misery to thieves. Last month some bastard broke into my house and stole the fucking boiler off the wall! Hope it kills him

FACT: It's not a nice neighborhood. Yuo == live in shithole.
 
Just go around the pawn shops and ask if anyone came in trying to get $100-$200 for an empty case.

Ummm why has nobody pointed out that stealing a GPS would be completely retarded? The entire point of a GPS unit is to know the location of a person, so if they ever turned it on... they'd be pretty fucked.

The GPS unit doesn't transmit it's location to anything, so you can't track it down. It's not LowJack.

Good point, because I had it mounted onto the vent assembly, and most crooks look for a windshield mount to steal a GPS. What galls me is I was right outside, and only stepped away from the car before the thief went to work.
 
BlueYonder: And this is why you should get a phone that's got its own internal GPS reciever. I mean, how often do you leave your phone behind nowadays?
On the bright side, they didn't make off with the whole car.

bb_wolfe: I dunno dude. I've noticed that theft based crimes generally happen more often in richer neighbourhoods. Povs from out of the area come in to steal shit.
I knew a girl in highschool that lived in Toorak, VIC (like the 5th most expensive suburb in Oz), and they'd get broken into pretty regularly.

Audax: A few of the fleet models do, but yeah, doubtful that BlueYonder would have had one of those.
