My kids xbox 360 slim broke over the weekend. No damn clue where to get it fixed (or if I should). My guess is it's the motherboard (freezing on start up or a few minutes in... can't even get to playing a game).
It's out of warranty (by 22 days).
So I figure I've got a couple choices and a few of you ass hats might know the answer
1.) Send it to microsoft.
2.) Send it to one of these repair xbox places I found on-line (scary option since I'm sure half of them or more are just kids in the basement of their mom's house).
3.) Buy another one and swap out the HD. He's got the 250 gig HD, his big concern is losing his profiles, and all that crap. Can he swap out the HD with any other xbox 360 slim? The arcade version? Can he buy one with out a HD?
I should note before anyone says anything about just buying him a new xbox that this entire thing is a money lesson. He buys his own games, the xbox he has, etc... He makes 'some' money on-line, and he's always got chores (that usually chooses not to do). This is on him and the lesson I'd like to teach him is that it's not always smart to drop bucks to buy a new one when something can get fixed or repaired.
Side note, I'll be taking the damn thing apart today and making sure the GPU is seated right, and there isn't something silly wrong in there like the fan being clogged. If the MB is out there for sale (looks like there are some for sale on e-bay but they are all in the U.K.) might just do it myself -- or at least help him do it.
