just got a new macbook pro, but i have a few programs i use that can only run on windows. i was gonna split the drive and give 5-10 GB to windows so i can run the few programs i need.

I hear vista is buggy as hell, and i just need the windows for a few programs, other than that, i'm using leopard. Should i get XP home edition over vista?

XP works, Vista works too but looks nicer and takes up an extra 10GB...

I use parallels on my macbook, and XP does the job m8, may as well save your mac hard disk for other more useful stuff.

XP.

I just spent a day last week manually downgrading a brand new Sony Vaio Z from Vista Business to XP Pro. At least in my case, better battery life and overall performance.

Just use parallels. With "coherence mode" you just load up apps in OSX. My vote is for XP too ... much faster in a VM.

XP. Much better battery life (though running Mac OS will have better battery life than either) than Vista. I put Vista on my MacBook at first, but within a week I upgraded to XP.

I use XP and parallels. Haven't tried VMware so I can't say if it is faster or not. Bootcamp will NOT let you run XP at the same time as OS X.
My brother uses VMWare fusion, and after seeing how well it worked I'm about to install it, myself. Not sure about performance difference between VMWare and Parallels, but VMWare worked flawlessly.
