I'm just getting started and signing up for a few affiliate networks (EWA and A4D). Are any of you concerned about giving these companies -- in some cases through an unencrypted, HTTP, not even HTTPS channel -- your social security number, bank account number, and routing code?

I know it's just so we can get paid, but I'm a little cautious about the whole thing personally. Are most of you guys just registering a quick LLC and creating a secondary savings account or some such thing?

I never give my info through an unsecured connection. There was a big argument with a PPV traffic network here I started because they didn't have SSL. I did mine for a while as a sole proprietor, so my SSN was used. EWA and A4D are trustworthy with your info though.

Forming a company/corporation is wise however, for a lot of reasons.

even as a sole proprietor you can get a federal tax ID and stop giving out your social.. it's instant online..

Apply for an Employer Identification Number (EIN) Online

for god knows what reason that form "closes" at 12:30 am each night.. just select "new business" or "accounting purposes" as reason for requesting, and start using that

If you can get an EIN as a Sole Proprietor is there any reason to register your business as a DBA? I'm not sure I'm ready for an LLC but I was thinking of registering a DBA mostly for the tax ID number. I'd prefer to start applying to networks with a business tax ID rather than an individual SS#.

sure, with a dba you can get a bank account in that name.. so you could have it listed as the payee on checks etc.. also make payments out in that name (you'd have a checkbook/debit card with the name).. maybe looks a little more professional than using your personal name, and only costs $20-80 depending on your county
