Having a 3yr old, I saw these "Your Baby Can Read!" commercials constantly. Always thought this Dr. was a bit of a snake-oil salesman so I'm not entirely surprised by the FTC's decision on this $200 product.

However, the sales figures sure did. Had no idea they were doing that kind of volume.

The settlement with Penton and Your Baby Can, LLC prohibits the Carlsbad, California-based defendants from further use of the term “Your Baby Can Read.” The settlement also imposes a $185 million judgment, which equals the company’s gross sales since January 2008. Upon Your Baby Can’s payment of $500,000, the remainder of the judgment will be suspended due to the company’s failing financial condition. Your Baby Can has represented that it is going out of business.

He should've spent some of that money on hair plugs and put the rest in offshore accounts.

I know people who have successfully taught their small children to read using his program. They weren't reading The Divine Comedy or anything, but it was impressive none the less.

EDIT:

People have stupid or average kids then get upset when they can't do things. They also probably just sat them down in front of the TV and said herpppy derp they'll pick it up.

The problem with the program is the claims of infants as young as 9-months old can learn to read. Infants don't read, they simply memorize. This Dr. simply could not prove his claims.

now that this guys out of the market who wants to start a JV with me?

we'll take his product and optimize it for maximum revenue

picture it, "your baby can read... the bible!"

we'll make billions, with a B

who cares about the "volume" or the "revenue"

the company was failing and could only pay $500k

unless the company was "failing" because the owner transferred $180mil offshore to his personal bank account, than I don't care

but it may say something about the appeal of the product, if you can fix the numbers so your company isn't "failing"
