Your Religion/Spirituality

A question for the people who claim to be Buddhist:

Which of the three 'sects' of Buddhism do you fall into?
3 for me. Like everyone I've ever met in Thailand, Buddhism is more a toolset than a religion, but they'll gladly call it a religion to take the calendar holidays off for that religion when asked. (Which is of course, another useful tool it offers.)

Do you not think calling it a religion 'clouds the debate' so to speak? It's misleading. The word 'religion' implies a belief in the supernatural - gods, miracles, karma, spiritual duality, that kind of nonsense - which you do not have.

I am spiritual. I believe we are all infinite beings of energy that create our own realities, this physical experience being just one of them. I believe there is a platform of energy which we are all a part of and linked to which religious people call God and scientific, rational people call the universe.

I think religion and science are both tools to help bring us to greater wisdom and understanding. I think we are all evolving towards becoming greater, more conscious beings, and in doing so creating the ability to reason and understand even more.

All religions are ultimately man-made and inherently flawed. This doesn't mean they don't have value, they all do. But there is so much bullshit in most religion sometimes it is hard to find the value. All religions basically derive from the same core religion of antiquity and as they spread into different cultures over different periods of time they develop their own take on things as the people shape the religion to their liking.

We are all infinite beings that live forever and have the freedom to do whatever the hell we want to do with our lives. If we make wise decisions we will create our own heaven. If we make poor decisions we will create our own hell.

Yeah, I don't really call it a religion to anyone at all anymore... But back when my employers asked me which religion I follow to know my scheduled days off; that was a good time to make an exception.
