Have a question regarding how youtube ranks the video's in each category.

As far as I know, the more ratings and comments you receive, the higher the popularity of your video raises.

Was wondering if there are any other factors.

Does views come into play also?

As far as I can tell, viewcount and recency also matter.

First of all, videos can get listed right on top of the search results if they are only a few days old ("recent videos"). Secondly, you sometimes see more recent videos with fewer views and comments outrank videos with more views and comments that are older and are on an account of a relatively inactive user.

I see. So it does the same thing with Google would do when indexing your website. Giving you a good position initially, but then sandboxing you.
And in this case, if the video proves to be popular from the start, the video will roam near the top, right?

I personally believe that comments/rating outweighs the benefits from view count, if there is even any benefit from it at all.

Also the ratings play a factor too

1- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4NcHNLrxcc Has 8k Views and 72 Ratings
2- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VRVmb6Qpw4 has 7k views and 266 ratings

2 is ranked higher and both were submitted on the same date.

Just get some indians to rate your videos or get some subscribers to your profile who usually rate high

The 2nd video also has almost 200 comments, while the 1st one has none.

Thanks for posting the two up for comparison.

We have established that comments/ratings/ and possibly views affect the ranking of a video. But what about how many times the video has been favorited? Or, how many subs the account received from that specific video.
