Zuckerberg Fortune Drops $600 Million as Facebook Flops

ok so now that the bubble has popped.

Couple questions:

1) Does anyone consider FB an long term investment?
2) When (what price) would you buy FB to hold it long?

1) Fuck no, its the internet things change, their CEO is a complete idiot. The 2nd something better comes along people will jump ship.
2) 0

Facebook will come back. There was a point when they had no profit and articles were suggesting it was a flop. Now they are profitable. They will keep coming up with clever ways to monetize and make money and will launch new product features. They are trialing FB ads on Zynga.com. Imagine if that opened up to publishers around the internet. The stock will soar.

I bought into Zynga at $3.11. It will come back as well. As a start to fix this, they fired the main dude in charge of all of their games. Once they start launching gambling games I think their shares will go up. They are being proactive.

Both of these companies are game changers. They will be able to figure it out.

Not so sure. My kids do not have nor want email addresses. They want me to communicate via FB messaging. My GF's kids are the same. Make of that what you will ...

Once they go to college or university that will change. I don`t think they will be able to e-mail assignments to peers or professors with facebook.

Why would a publisher run facebook ads on their site vs google ads?

You are either a PR bot or a dumbass

^^ that and when they get into the "real world" and working full-time and have a superior to report to.

I do believe this is true about Zynga (as long as they are smart). It's been said that Facebook has been making it harder for games to go viral, but FB is in the process of building App and Game stores similar to what Apple has with iTunes, the App Store, and iBooks.

Once they do this games will get more exposure.

Also, this whole tendency of making addictive games without caring if they are shitty are starting to wear off (Farmville, Mafia Wars, WoW, etc.) One companies start listening to the fans and gamers they will see users flock back.

Why would a publisher run facebook ads on their site vs google ads?

Because for certain niches, FB ads might be able to generate more revenue than AdSense due to the fact that FB has information about the visitor that can be put to good use.

Now for niches such as mortgage refinancing, AdSense will definitely perform better.

But what about for example humor sites?

By taking advantage of the info FB has at its disposal, you can monetize humor traffic by displaying ads based on the info FB has about that person.

Female + Single? Targeted dating ads.
Male + Single? Targeted dating ads.
WickedFire member? Fleshlight ads.

Again, if you know what your visitors are likely to buy (if you have a website about mortgage refinancing, it's likely that visitors will be interested in mortgage refinancing offers) then AdSense/CPA offers/whatever will probably perform better than FB ads but for certain sites (humor sites, for example), FB ads might perform better.

I've been playing around with social the last few months.

Social lacks intent. The demographic targeting isn't anywhere near the targeting you can do with geo+search.

That said, Ly2 barely has enough money for baby wipes, it's sort of bizarre to see my dear friend making threads about Zuck losing $600 million, when no one here will ever have $600 million to lose.

Really?

validation is satisfying my friend
Not sure how proud I would be validating myself by someone elses lack of success (although Zuckerberg is more successful than all of WF combined, possibly forever).

Given his comments in the Facebook IPO thread, I'm sure he is referring to not buying into the investment hype and avoiding serious personal losses $$$.

I don't feel validated that his net worth is dropping (nor do I care), I feel validated that the stock price is approaching a more realistic number given what Facebook's revenue says it should be worth.
