NEW Facebook Ads

Has anyone noticed that country targeting on FB doesn't seem to working correctly over the last month? Since December I've noticed the following scenario play out several times:

1. Facebook reports 100 clicks.
2. Network reports 70 clicks to the offer, 30 clicks to Webfetti and all the other stupid shit they redirect people to when they're outside of the target country.

Needless to say this is a big problem, and has already cost me $x,xxx in wasted clicks. I just emailed FB support but was wondering if any of you have had this problem.

Thanks.

MistorToker,

So you're saying the problem is actually that FB is incorrectly identifying the user's country?

I think the problem is that FB is showing the ad to user's outside of the country I'm targeting, which is why my affiliate network is showing clicks to backup offers. If I use geoip to redirect all users to my affiliate URL, I think I'll still run into the same problem where users outside the offer's geo will be redirected by my aff network.

Make sense? I'm not sure how I can fix this is FB is going to show my ads to users in countries I'm not targeting (and charge me for those clicks).

It can end up being a bigger problem for you if the traffic is being redirected to non-compliant offers (e.g. Webfetti) and FB sees this you can end up being banned. And you cannot use the excuse that the traffic is being redirected due to geotargetting as FB doesn't allow this as all traffic should see the same offer from anywhere.

i think i understood you correctly the first time - i'm saying you should use geoip to redirect the INTL traffic that you didn't want, to INTL offers for your niche.

i.e

facebook charges me for 4000 US clicks, spy view shows 1500 AU clicks. if i'm running a dating offer, be2 US, then the script would redirect all australian traffic to be2 AU, or whatever offer i want it to. this way the INTL clicks i'm billed for are actually converting.

Also keep in mind, Geo targeting is only as good as the lookup list you are using. I would suspect facebooks list is more accurate and current than your networks. You might go grab a copy of maxmind's free database, write a script to look-up your ips and collate city/state/country stats. You might be surprised what you find.

I did this recently for a friend with about 500,000 clicks he bought through adblade over the last month targeting us traffic only and we found that 99.9% of the traffic was considered US traffic as per maxminds lookup list.

Let me know if you want help and maybe I can write up a tutorial or something on it.

Goodluck

I think they're trying to do it off location in your profile or something.

When I was in the states, I was getting ads targeted to my city back home.

Although, when I got back home - I got US ads for a couple of days :S

Your IP address is cached in their databases along with the location of where they think that ip address is. When you log in from a new location it takes about 24 hours for it to add the new ip address to the cache so that you start getting ads more targteed to yoru present location.

To instantly render ads in real time based on your present location would put massive load on their servers, which is why they cache your location.

I was in the states for about 2 weeks, entire time had UK ads :S

FB Ads Question

Hey Guys,

I need some insight on FB Ads. All my ads have been approved.

My click through rates seem to be good @ 0.26% on average and my max bid price is $0.50 over my average CPC.

However, I'm not getting hardly any impressions! I have no idea why my impressions are so low.

At first I thought it might be because of the amount of people Im targeting based off my demographics but each campaing has about 3mm people being targeted so Im pretty sure I should be getting some impressions!

Any advice would be great from someone who is an expert at FB Ads. Its also taking FB like 3-6 hrs to approve my campaigns! Any advice/help would be amazing!

Oh, one more think, I have four creatives in one campaign.

thanks!

DCS

I don't think its based on IP targeting at all.

You are a moron. Heres a copy and paste from their FAQ.

How does Facebook know which users should see my location-targeted ads?

Facebook determines the location of a user based on IP (Internet Protocol) addresses, which can help identify the country or city where a user is physically located. If a user has listed a current address on their profile, they may see ads targeted to that location, regardless of where they are currently located. Ads are not targeted to a user's geographic networks or any other information.

and then you got US ads when you got home. Which shows they knew you were in the states at one point. Probably a longer delay in their cache refresh.

When I fly to another country and land I usually start seeing ads for the country im in within 12 hours of logging into facebook.

Ok so i increased my budget from $25.00 to $100.00 and the flood gates opened up.

Thats definitely what it was...but something real FUCKING SHITTY happened.

My CPC Tripled!

It just took my RIO from literally $315% to -4%. Now I am losing money where I was killing it.

I have no idea what the fuck just happened. The numbers are not making sense to me, anyone know why my CPC tripled when i raised my max daily?

Did your CTR drop?

Looks like you got a flood of clicks, and your CTR dropped.

no my CTR didnt drop! It actually went up believe it or not! I was at .265 average and now im at .314 average!

my CPC literally tripled when i increased my ad budget! i dont get it at all??

My max bid was set at $1.00 and i was getting clicks on average about $0.25 cpc when my budget was at $25 and then when i changed my budget to $100 it went to $0.75 cpc. nothing else changed?

after i saw my cpc triple, i decreased my max bid to .30 and now im not getting any clicks or impressions at all!

It doesnt make sense, i had over 175k impressions when my avg bid was .25 so i was getting traffic at that cpc and that budget, i just wanted to see how much i could sale it by increasing my ad budget.

Any insight would be great! thank you sooo much. :D

So did anyone else see that spam on the news feed? The app for viewing your profile viewers gender - obviously fake though.

Shit was snowballing like a mofo, and the app was just a gateway and status updater.

This was why Maxbounty and those other guys got sued right?
