16 inch retractable baton so that I can keep it in my purse, in my jeans or in the car door.
That would be fine if you're just going to smack kids, old ladies, or sneak up behind someone. A strong / large guy will take it from you and beat you with it. Just get a nice small .380 and protect thyself.

He's most probably planning to beat me anyways, I'd rather have a fighting chance. Guns are not an option at this point, as said earlier.

I practice self defense on my husband all the time. (yeah he's a good sport) But it would also be nice to have something to strike with. As it is now, I walk with my keys out (eye jabbers) but with how big and rounded keys are today, it's not enough.

Iron golf club, Crowbar, Hammer, Led Pipe.

I'm sure if you look at the martial art related shops they'll be all sorts of crazy retractable stuff.

Umbrellas with swords, nunchuck, etc.

Perfect example of the crazy martial stuff that people come up with...

What's the fun of living in Texas without carrying a gun? ;p

Take some self defense classes like krav maga; perfect for women (anyone) to do maximum damage.

The problem is with batons , stun guns , tasers , pepperspray and the like is that people high on PCP or similar drugs will not be effected by them.

Guns in those cases are your only bet.............So consider your options.

You don't even have to have good aim ;)
Too long, fast forward to about 2:19 for synopsis.

100% REAL Brass Knuckles

I know a girl who carried some, she ended up using it on a crack head that tried to take her purse and keys after leaving a bar. One shot to the head and he was down and out, and she's like 5'2 110 lbs. I'll ask her to give me the mugshot link again since I lost it but the guys face was severely messed up.

Batons are illegal in a lot of states. They are regulated like knives and any other weapons.

I love small metal baseball bats. People think I coach little league or something. I have one in the truck of every car, in garages, under beds, etc.

For up close and personal your best bet is some kind of self defense like krav maga as others have said. Train for 6 months and you'll be WAY better off than carrying a baton, plus you have those skills with you everywhere you go and it's not illegal. :) You'll feel a whole lot more confident in everything you do, plus it's a good workout and all that.

There are many other harmless looking small devices you can carry instead of a baton that are just as dangerous if you learn how to use them. For example the guppy in the video above. Stuff like that you can carry without worrying about getting hassled by the popo. You can explain it away in any number of ways.

here get one of these:

Holy shit I just realized that in the state of Texas I can carry a concealed firearm but I can't carry a baton, concealed or otherwise. How absurd.

Thread Fail... but I still have a couple batons from Amazon. They're not the super expensive $80, but were $20 each. Will give someone a serious thumpin, but after that, they'll be bent and broken. I didn't see a need to buy a real deal lead one. I'm in a safe hood.

Yes, I have a collapsible baton (http://www.google.com/products/cata...=X&ei=GLJsTfGWFpOWsgOBmqnFBQ&ved=0CD4Q8wIwBA#) that I carry in my car for self-defense. Bought it in Nevada and carry it around in California.

It can be illegal if you "plan" on using it as a weapon... HOWEVER - all my friends in law enforcement said that if you ever get stopped and are asked what it's for, tell them it's a "tire knocker" to check the pressure on your tires. Truck drivers always carry them around.

I would just use by base to beat the hell outta anyone who needs a hard time.

Child safety - can be used by a child too .. check this out ..
