Ahh yes this is what the WF brother (and sister) hood is all about.

I still have a few projects left over from my web-designer pre-affiliate days. One is for an online store for a small high end clothing shop. As a favor I gave this person a "personal" rate. Now after 6 weeks and all the meetings and time I have put into it, she sent me a short email saying "don't take it personally I am going another way with the design". Well, call me Jon-like but I'm taking it a bit personal. Not because she wants someone else to design it, but because she doesn't think she should have to pay me. Anyone got any suggestions? I'm thinking mostly "reputation management" stuff.

You no fuck with the WF

find her adress and gently rest your balls and her eye lashes till she wakes up and then fart in her mouth

Thanks Kaveman. I'm rushing over there as soon as I finish up an Ultimate Bean Bowl from El Pollo Loco.

Just to clarify. I was thinking of something INTERNET related. Unless you have finally conquered smell-o-vision and then I could virtually fart in the face of all her visitors.

Sell her first born son into slavery...

Or demand payment for your work. She probably didn't break any laws for doing what she did... but she doesn't have to know that. E-mail her and tell her you're suing her unless she pays you for the work you've completed. Quote alot of fake information, including bi-laws, example court cases, and reference numbers to the aforementioned laws. It doesn't have to be real, she just has to think it is.

Intimidate and threaten her with legal action.

Just my two cents. Just the thought of having to go to court makes those deadbeats pay up.

This is, assuming of course, you had a written or verbal contract with her.

def go with MyOwnDemon's idea. Forge an attorney's letter.

if that doesn't work, then fuck with her.

What info do you have on her?

Email obviously...how about mailing addy? Phone? Fax? Anything else. If not, do a whois lookup on the domain you were designing for.

Got all the info I could possibly want. This person was a friend of a friend of a friend. So I know them personally now.

Hmmm, what would Cartman do?

First he would let all of the air out of all of her tires and leave a note under her windshield wiper. Then get someone with a cool head and no heart (a total stranger her) to pose as a hospital worker and call her to tell her that her [mother, husband, daughter, whatever] just died in a car accident and she needs to get there immediately.

When she runs out to her car having a nervous break down she finds the note that says: Don't take it personal, but nobody is actually dead, however your tires are very flat. bitch.

That's f*cking awesome...I have a list of people that deserve that...

This is ANOTHER example of a client / vendor relationship gone awry. Read the other thread.

And don't waste your time / energy / money on revenge. If anything, wrap up the site design and sell it as a template. Hell - give it away. Perhaps you can get it listed in StumbleUpon or something and then you'll get some recognition and possibly a NEW client.

Nice. I would actually do both:

a) salvage everything you can and re-use it.
b) charge her legally for all the work you have done. Write down your hours, your rate, etc. Bill her. Threaten to take legal action.

Done.

Yes, no revenge here, just act professional.

I don't know how it is in the US, but over here, an oral agreement is a contract.

Hard to enforce, but there is a thing called "congruent action" which strenghtens your case. In this case, it is the actual doing of the work which shows movement into the contract.

Also, there might be mails back and forth like "I like that design, put some more pink in, etc.."

I agree with most...I would try to get paid for legitimate time you put in, at the rate agreed. Don't try and overcharge her or anything, but just get paid for what you have actually done.

Then, figure out a subject or topic that she is really really oppossed to, and sign her email address up for every newsletter and list on that subject. :)

lol... so you don't think sending an attorney's letter is a good idea (faux or not), but you do think slashing someone's tires and then posing fraudulently as a hospital worker and informing them of a death in their family and leaving a threatening note is a good idea?

i am not saying the second isn't a good idea, just that it certainly a lot more illegal.

I second this. No need to mar your professional reputation over one stupid deadbeat.
