2011 Formula Season Starts - Who Will Win?

MotoGP FTMFW! Fuck F1 and NASCAR.

Niggah why you hatin on F1 in my thread!

You do realize in the history of the world there has been only 1 person to win world championships on both bikes and in cars right?

You do realize that a F1 car corners about 2 or 3 times faster than a moto GP bike right?

And of course you can't be climbing all over a car to make up for its handling and/or your setup deficiencies , right?

Having said that Moto GP is a beautiful sport to watch. Was looking at the Cataluyna GP this am on speed tv as a matter of fact. Gotta love that American Ben Spies!

FYI and fwiw worth that person was of course John Surtees.

Here is is in his older days. looks like a college professor right? One of the first things you learn when you go racing is you Cannot judge the racer by his looks.

Yeah, I'm going to see it alone when it arrives here cause I know I'll be crying like a schoolgirl.

lol I was bust when I wrote that. Defo the movie of the summer though. One of the best parts was where we see him win the Brazilian Grand Prix stuck in 6th gear was it?! You should hear him screaming in the car when he crosses the line. Soon after he was unconscious and could hardly move later, but he put everything he had into that race! Great film, scores 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and has a high score on IMDB as well (expected to be at least top 20 soon IMO).

Grand Prix this wknd in your neck on the woods?! Canada is usually a decent race. Ferrari in 1 and 3 in the second practice.:)

I can't make Canada and yeah it's pretty freakin close to me. But I am doing the grand prix in Texas next year.

Loved the way both #1 drivers had to step up their their games a bit to beat back their #2's (Webber and Massa were on form).

Looks like Vettel had a concentration lapse and threw the race win away. That shit will only make a young racer like Vettel a Much better driver. Look for him to dominate when the Circus gets back to Europe.

Again, good lookin out on that Senna film!

No more off-throttle blown diffusers and Red Bull is still on the front row!

But it looks like this mid-season rule change did help Ferrari; the team it was intended to help. Right?

Bump for Silverstone.:)

A great circuit!

Are you going to be there?

Come on Di Resta you Scottish motherfuck!

Birthplace of Jim Clark and Jackie Stewart -- not too shabby. I mean my backyard is almost fuckin bigger!

Didn't head down there today buddy. Was a great race, good to see Ferrari take the win.

Pretty sure that Vettel will be the Champ though (Germany arrives next for him as well).

+ If anyone has access to the BBC, don't forget the new Top Gear episode tonight. Vettel will be on it, probably blowing the Stig's lap time lol.

Yeah, Ferrari Is F1. Although, I never appreciated team orders to the extent that they used them in the Schumacher era. Any car company that sells road cars expressly for the purpose of having a F1 budget as they do, and they are the Only people that do it: they fuckin rock!

Oh and speaking of team orders, Webber basically told the team to fuck off as he battled Vettel to the end. Horner was scared they'd take each other out.

You think Vettel and Red Bull want to win in Germany :cool2:? I'm guessing Webber would sell his soul to win there to prove a point.

Yeah, Top Gear: that'll be a good show.

That Red Bull order was lame, I'm glad Webber just went for it anyway. I still think Seb has the edge over him though. BTW got this from last night, unsure how long it'll stay up though...

Didn't wanna throw the spoiler up there. Fastest ever lap on Top Gear ahead of the F1 drivers, Stig and everyone else. The guy is ridiculously talented. Can't believe he only just turned 24 yrs old a few days ago. Do you think he could take on Schumacher's record?! (Should have of course been Senna's record).

Schu's record of 7 championships is within his reach but will be very hard to match. I hate to keep harping on this but also a number 1 driver at Ferrari is unlike a number 1 at any other top team. The number 2 has to give up all development parts, race wins, spare cars, ect, etc. to him. That is a huge edge in winning championships.

Look at Alonso and Hamilton -- they both had a championship at a very young age (2 for Alonso) but then their teams were not in a position to win championships.

Ferrari during Scumacher's 11 year stint and also McLaren during the Senna years had virtually No limit on what they could spend! Were talking in the 300 million dollar a year range; an astronomical sum to run 2 cars for 16 races.

Right now Red Bull has that type of a budget and for sure the best package at the moment but the question remains: what will happen in the future?

So, I doubt it -- but it is possible.

Ay, nothing special tbh. We all knew he would become WC 10 races ago.
Good race for Button though, although I have a feeling Vettel didn't want to risk anything and just crused to the finish :)

I wanted Hamilton to win again :(, hopefully next season!

A person with that much talent must be seething. I feel for him and also Alonso. Seb came through, amazing job.

Yeah he tied for his worst finish of the season - 3rd. lol

btw couldn't help but notice you're a 5 year member and this is your 1st post.

Same here... Even I wanted Hamilton to win again

It seems, at the moment, Button is getting more out of the car, go figure. I mean, he is Not a quicker driver than Hamilton.

I LOVE F1... BUT... It's the car that wins, not the driver. In equal cars, seb was slower than di resta. I've watched F1 since I was a kid, and won't stop. The plaudits given to the drivers is over the top. It's the engineers behind the cars that make the difference.

F1 is not a spec series, not all. And yes if you don't have the talent to get a top ride you have no chance of winning a race. And yes in any given season perhaps 3 or 4 teams have that type of combination

The driver makes a world of difference -- every team manager and engineer knows this. That is why the top teams throw tens of millions of dollars a year to secure the best drivers. His technical feedback is what helps develops the car all season long.

To say that the engineering side is not as important as the driver's ability would be absurd. However I strongly disagree with your assertion that the praise heaped on the drivers is over the top. Go out and run some competitive and consistent lap times in any racing car -- and then well talk more about this, ok?

Well done to Vettel, much more consistent this season. Adrian Newey will make that Red Bull even better next year so I can see Vettel doing the business again. That last race showed that Button could compete, but to convince me he'll have to do the same this wknd in Korea. I always find myself routing for Schumi each race. I wonder if he is too old now or is it that Merc not being up to spec?!:)
