Coconut Oil?

Agree, to say olive oil is not good for cooking is absurd. I'm pretty certain if it was fundamentally flawed for the purpose the hundreds of millions of people who use it as a staple through western Europe would have clicked onto the issue in the last thousand years.

Indeed. Most people also don't realize most cookware is rated to withstand temperatures of no more than 500°. With the exception of cast iron and some glass cassarole dishes not much else can go over 500°. People see high smoke point temperatures and they go nuts over them even though most of your cooking will fall in the sub 400° range.

Fuck Coconut oil, I inject synthol oil into my limbs daily. So fuckin jacked...

how often do you cook at 500 degrees?

Wok cooking can get pretty hot. I got a hand hammered wok from singapore for Christmas and burned it in with lard. Shit was smoky and it was not a pleasant experience but man does it cook well now.

I can't use regular olive oil in it for some stir fry recipes, it just smokes too much.

Suprised that no one mentioned Grapeseed oil. Good shit that. (Highest known burn point too.)

In general though I will not use any oil. Oil is basically just fat and why add fat to any food at all? Water and some extra movements around in the pan will do the work of oil in cooking any day of the week.

Lol, water, lol

Perhaps some of us enjoy real food.

Indeed Woks would be a different situation. Gotta use a very high smoke point oil for that.

I use coconut oil as a body moisturizer. I also use it underarm, it has antibacterial properties and better than deodorants.

Thinking of switching from cooking with olive oil to Coconut oil. Looks like it's one of those controversial foods where the medical community says it's bad and the alternative community says it's the best.

What say you?

Why are you thinking of switching then?

I've lost 40 pounds with the help of Coconut Oil in 5 months. Half way to my non-fatty goal.

I use Nutiva Coconut Oil... buy it from Amazon.

ya, we know it has "mad" fat in it... has been pointed out many times so far...

fat is good for you. you are made of it.

Stay with olive oil, it's really healthy and def worth it, not sure about coconut oil.

Good post - not sure about coconut oil but deff stay with olive.

I wish I had those certainties about things I knew nothing about, it must be amazing.

Coconut Oil is the bomb. It is very high in MCTs, smells incredible, and tastes even better. The saturated fats are STABLE (ie saturated) bonds that do not degrade or smoke out like your olive oil. They are necessary for all vital organs to function properly.

I make stuff like stir fry and sweet potatoes in the pan with coconut oil. I hear you can make popcorn with it too, but I don't eat corn.

If you ARE going to cook with olive oil, go with non-virgin. It'll have a higher smoke point. The last thing you want are polyunsatuated fats oxidizing and bonding with all sorts of shit in your body.

On the MCT note, I'm getting into MCT oil in my pre workout protein shakes. This stuff is pure energy. You shouldn't cook with this due to the lower smoke point though:

I'm stoked that saturated fats are coming back "in style". I don't eat them like crazy like many paleo dieters do (I try to keep meat pretty lean this year and it's working well), but it's definitely part of my everyday diet and should be part of yours.

Oh, and since you're a lady, you can even use it for your hair and skin since you probably like that stuff.

I have coconut oil on subscribe and save from Amazon.
