I'll address this quickly, using a realistic outlook based on the last 50 years of presidencies that have claimed there would be change.
1) Nope. The bureacracy has been built up so much to the point where Ron Paul getting anything passed through a legislative branch and fuck up any senators/representatives and their disgusing affiliation with the huge amount of lobbyist groups in America will prevent any laws from getting passed. That's why ACTA was signed into law, not because of any stupid moral reason, simply the lobbyist money.

3) No. Our tax system will not change. Again, this libertarian empire that you and other Paul-ites think will be established is definitely going to help the 13% of our country on the poverty line and below it. His economic plan will not fix much, and will probably hurt it.

The system is twisted, fucked up and retarded. Companies have too much power and push / pull the politicians like puppets to get what they want so they can make MORE MONEY.
They do what they can to make sure, the person that benefits them the most is elected.
I agree that if you wanted to change the government in the USA you put all the politicians on the same playing field so that they all have an equal chance, not based on how much money they can get to guerrilla market the masses. In fact I don't think they should be able to market at all. It should be based on the debates.
The public favorite gets elected. However most politicians don't like to think this way. They like to think that the most of the entire population of the USA is too retarded to make an educated decision and it's just easier to get them to vote for them via marketing.

Put it this way. Lets say you have two guys producing similar products.
Product 1 is great, built nationally and is the best quality money can buy. Lifespan of 6 years. Their marketing department sux a big fat nut.
Product 2 is shit, built in china and is the worst quality money can buy. Lifespan of 6 months. Their marketing department is run by an elite advertising team so naturally it fucking steals the show and sells more product than they can produce.
Now I'm not hating on advertising at all, just saying that's the same way the government works and Product 2 is always always what gets elected.

No, how about you tell me what country has been the absolute most successful in the last 60 years with a "small government".
I'm not a politician bro, but I expect politicians to know the difference between right and wrong and do what's right. Simple as that. Lobbying should be illegal. Drugs should be legalized so we can kiss the black market gang violence goodbye. We should be 100% focused on America, not other countries. The government should focus on its core functions and not try to meddle in everybody's shit. And lastly, they should be able to balance the goddamn books considering how high we are taxed.
Lobbying is what you do when you talk to a congressman about anything. Lobbying - Definition and More from the Free Merriam-Webster Dictionary , parents lobby congressman all the time. Lobbying should be legal, but regulated. I think all drugs should be decriminalized, similar to what happens in Europe, and in Europe there is a much lower drug crime rate compared to other nations (recent studies in Portugal and Denmark show that decriminalization works). We can't only focus on America, and I think a lot of people don't understand the scope of the problems that America has. I'd rather spend a decent amount of time on America, but also send aid to people in other countries, places like Africa, poorer sections of SEA, and more, should be getting some aid. I DO think that this should be controlled spending, so not dumping however absurd amount of money we are on Israel now. Also, I think the tax code should simply be reformed, but I'm in favor of a public option and free education (places like Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway, continue to have some of the highest testing scores and have better overall GDP compared to the US and also allow for an educated public which can elect better people into office.
I feel like I'm not answering what I set out to do, but a lot of libertarians are obsessed with this image of a small government doing great things for the people, as the people will voluntarily be good. I find flaws in this system especially for a massive country like the US, because of something I've probably missed with some text. But as the world gets closer and closer to a global economy (yes, this is going to happen whether anyone likes it or not, it's how the economy in the world is moving towards). So, in this time, here and now, a "large" government is close to necessary to having a much stronger country.
That's like asking me which breed of Unicorn has the shortest horn. There are no small government countries excepting only Somalia, but that's not fair to talk about since they are actually under foreign rule and constant external terrorism attack.

Lobbying may include just talking to a congressman about a cause that concerns you, but even THAT isn't how a republic is supposed to work!
A Democracy and of course a Republic both are supposed to have each congressman reflect his or her own CONSTITUENTS desires. You know, the people that voted for him. They are supposed to represent the wishes of that district's people without any need whatsoever to be lobbied in any way... It's part of the job to find out what his constituents want and serve that interest.
Instead you are defending EXTERNAL PRESSURE AND DESIRES to come in and influence a congressman, which can basically nullify the vote of his or her constituents. That alone is IMMORAL & EVIL.
But it gets Much worse! Lobbying also gives a means to bribery, earmarks, kickbacks, extortion, and everything else that could go wrong with a system. Without the practice of lobbying how else could the bribing party and the congressman officially meet and do business? They should be kept as far apart as possible.
Lobbying is the #1 form of corruption in our government as it allows for those with money (Corps) or power (Unions) to to literally get away with murder and worse on a every-single-fucking-day basis. That's government as usual here though, all thanks to Lobbying.

Don't you realize that it's impossible to solve such problems with money and external aid? Look at what happened in Haiti. Americans sent them so much aid and food after their big quake that we basically created a new warlord class there in charge of the food that persists to this day and 90% of the people that needed it never got any. The survivors are still mostly living in tent cities today... Years later.
All countries need to be educated to fend for themselves. The moment you interfere in any country where the majority of people are uneducated, anywhere, for any reason, you have reduced their sovereignty and caused new problems to spring up. Complete reliance on handouts always Kills more than it helps in the long run.
The only humane solution for third world nations I've ever heard is the One Laptop per Child charity. Others may exist but if the point is to make them voluntary charities, not national efforts. (See the film above for why.)

Minarchists and Anarcho-Capitalists agree that if your system is based on Property rights first and foremost, then it's in everyone's best interest to follow the golden rule. If you don't, things get ugly very fast, so nobody wants that.
As it is now, things take a long time to 'blow up' and when they do, they blow up BIG. Not so when property rights are put first.
Also, your other idea that "small government doing great things for the people" is another horrible assumption. We DON'T WANT a government to do anything for us at all. No Roads, no firemen, no medicare, None of it. The private sector, once a government stops tilting the table, ALWAYS does a better job than any government could do in every industry.

Sadly I think you're right that we can't avoid it, not without something drastic like a seastead or moonstead, and perhaps those would only be temp fixes.
