Texas nailbiter GOP convention issues update:

An extraordinary emergency meeting of the State Republican Executive Committee was convened in Austin, TX....The first significant amendment to be debated was one proposed by SREC member Tom Washington, and presented by SREC member Jason Moore. This amendment unbound the delegates to the RNC National Convention after the first ballot. This amendment passed overwhelmingly. This will make Texas a much bigger player on the national stage in the event that there is a brokered convention in Tampa, FL this August, as we have the second largest delegation with 155 delegates and all of the delegates will be up for grabs on the second ballot.

I'm stoked. Paul could "win" his own state for sure that way.

What's with the "After the first Ballot" thing? I don't see any clarification of what that calls for.

The eventual republican nominee will need to have 50% + 1 of the delegate votes (1144 delegates).

The "first ballot" means what all the delegates are required, by state law, to do at the first vote. Every state is different in their rules, some are majority takes all, some are according to a percentage of popular vote, some are unbound all together and are just whatever the delegate wants.

In the instance that there is no nominee with 1144 votes on the first ballot (which there most assuredly won't be with 4 nominees as they are now) many (maybe most) states allow for a free for all on the second ballot/vote. This is when all the strategically placed RP delegates (having already done their proper delegatory duty according to RNC rules) will swing all their votes towards Ron Paul.

This is the delegate strategy that's been going on for the last couple of months. And why he actually does have a chance.

Ahh, in Tampa. Gotcha... The way it was worded I thought they were talking about in Texas at the beauty pageant.

I agree, no one is 1/2 as organized as Paul's delegates, and ppl are going to be SRSLY surprised at the results in Tampa... But I temper it with the knowledge that the GOP has already found FOUR (4) distinctive, different ways to commit vote fraud so far this season. What's one more in Tampa?

so are there a lot of RP supporters on this site?

Why is that?
Since you're a 5-post wondernoob I'm tempted to tell you we're all actually Dick "frothy" Scrotorum voters here but I just can't bring myself to do it.

The real answer is because we are mostly all smart and like freedom.

Sounds like a jaded thing to say, but it's the core truth of the matter.

There's alot of potential road blocks ahead for Ron Paul which can be discouraging... until you realize how many he's gotten through already in the last 30 years.

Never stop.

Ron Paul's chances of winning the White House may be minimal, but his supporters dominated the Republican caucuses in St. Louis and Jackson County on Saturday.

While I'm annoyed at the continuing perpetuation of the media's attempt to forcefully dismiss RP, to mention the white house, it's obvious they are now taking him more serious in the potential to win the primaries. :D
