Has anyone sold a site to someone on Flippa who has gone on to make it a massive success?

Ive sold a few for less than $2000 and they have been to people who dont know what they are doing.

I sold one for $20k a couple of years ago and the buyer was more savvy, but still didnt really know what he was doing.

Haven't seen such a site sold on flippa yet. But I sure have seen lots and lots of garbage sites being sold on flippa. Their buyers are surely IM newbies who want to have a share of the pie and have lot of money but don't know where to spend it.
This makes flippa a very good market for peopel like us who are gurus or semi gurus in IM. There's lot of money to be made mate. :)

Most of the sites I've sold have floundered. Probably half the the sites I've sold sites the new owners have left my ads active, and some of them the new owners never touch and let expire. I recently sold one for mid xx,xxx and the new owner looks like he is half-assing it and his rankings are going to shit. I've never had someone buy a site and take it in a new and exciting direction.

I sold a site, for lets say.. a considerable sum. (Not enough to retire on.. but it'd buy a nice super car).

The new owners haven't really touched it, which is beyond me when making such a big purchase.

No idea what's happening with it income/traffic wise though, very hard to gauge. They had tons of big ideas and plans, and it's been almost a year now with no change. The guy buying it kept on going on about how it'd become massive and be something to put proudly on my CV and so on, but yeah.. lol.

I had a guy buy a site from me for $1000 paid and everything and then he just ignored it.

Like... his hosting failed and he just ignored it for weeks.

Just checked it... it is still down.

I'm one of the "buy-and-mostly-abandon" guys. I've bought many sites mostly for the aged domain name (future use), or to put a few links on it. Sometimes I get an email from the seller..."Hey dude, this thing is still banking $1.12/day in my Adsense account, did you forget to put your adsense code in?"

Heh.

Sold a site for like 2k. Buyer changed everything, BUT the affiliate links which were making 90% of the money. So I was still making money for months after I sold it, until all its rankings crashed horribly because of Google updates and neglect. Guy put adsense on it and a shitty mfa theme. He had no idea wtf he was doing it seems.

Not on Flippa, but I sold a ringtones site, free-ringtones.tv in 2002 for about $500 because I was doing final exams and didn't have the time and the new owner was pulling in £15k a month a few years later. Yep.

Check that shit out, jealous as fuck! I'd be soooooooooooo sketchy buying that. I'd hunt that mother down if something was inaccurate, or ranks dropped, or whatever. i dont do clickbank so idk what this even is but narly bid price.

That same site sold a year ago for $900k.

i've sold several sites at XX,XXX and guess who is still seeing revenue come in from all the previous ads? Me... these guys buy the sites and never touch them in my experience.

I'm currently selling one of my sites for the first time (you guys may check it here). Since I'm using StatCounter which is better I think, it's funny when people keep telling me to give them google analytics stats that I hate since its interface is somewhat messy and it doesn't provide real time results. Is that google analytics so good? Or is there a goodie feature I don't know about? Sigh...

I'm one of the people who will buy stuff on flippa and "neglect it". What people don't see is what I'm doing in the background. I use them as a cover to get whitelists that will make more money than if I spent actual time working on the website.

Emailers are evil.

Teach me how.

If you have a truly good, high quality site you can do well... but from what I've noticed there are a ton of crap sites on there.

The worst thing in my opinion is the listing fees are soooo friggin' high...

LOL I've had that happen too. I sold a site way back in 2007 (not on Flippa) and STILL get clicks on it.

Yeah i also sold a site for xxx, xxx, xxx on flippa way back in 1996. Back than stuff used to be easy. Now mother fucker everybody is trying to sell something.
