What Really Causes Heart Disease?

I guess that's what I meant by empty calories. High calories, little to no nutritional benefit

Because it works on the same underlying principle - that is to introduce genetical traits that aren't present in the "normal" breed. The breeding we do is just an old fashioned way of achieving the same effect.

If you're afraid a pig gene in a tomato will have an unforeseen effects on our bodies you are right - it can have, just as a new breed of certain vegetable can have. That's why we do research and tests etc when a new food is introduced for human consumption.

No, it's not the same underlying principle. We breed sheep with sheep and cattle with cattle, in an entirely natural process. Tomatoes don't breed with pigs, instead we splice their DNA together in an entirely unnatural process, and if you think scientists have thoroughly and independently tested this, you're completely mistaken.

The FDA and USDA do not always put GMO foods through any kind of rigorous, long term, testing process. See the stories about genetically modified salmon and AquaBounty and the USDA's fight to push this through as fast as possible with as little testing as possible. They don't even want to have to tell you the salmon is GMO if they don't have to. And it's not just about what damage we might be doing to our own bodies, but also to stocks of naturally occurring species in the wild.

Did you test your inflammation levels?

If you are referring to C-Reactive Protein, then yes I did :

C-reactive protein (CRP) is protein found in the blood, the levels of which rise in response to inflammation (i.e. C-reactive protein is an acute-phase protein). Its physiological role is to bind to phosphocholine expressed on the surface of dead or dying cells (and some types of bacteria) in order to activate the complement system via the C1Q complex.[1]

I have a below average chance of future heart disease compared to the average American. Makes me hungry for some GMO corn fed beef right now.

Nobody here has posted any legit science against GMO. I'm waiting for something besides hyperbole.

You still can't. GMO is done to decrease nutrient requirements, increase drought resistance, and make a plant not attractive to pests.

There has been absolutely zero evidence showing GMO is dangerous to humans. None. Ever.

Still waiting for scientific evidence. I'll take it you don't have any.

Wow, seriously? You made a claim, back it up. It's pretty obvious you're basing it on pure hyperbole and empty rhetoric with a shitty reply like that.

Really John? Coming from the resident WF "scientist" that's pretty shocking. Where's your evidence? Show me the evidence that absolutely proves GMO foods are entirely safe. You can't, because they haven't been around long enough to discount any risk.

I read the article earlier and refrained from commenting but there's too much stupid going on here. Can someone explain to me how this makes any sense?

"The rest of us have simply followed the recommended mainstream dietthat is low in fat and high in polyunsaturated fats and carbohydrates, not knowing we were causing repeated injury to our blood vessels."

How is it that a "low in fat" diet, allows for "high in polyunsaturated fats" ? A low fat diet = low fat diet to me. No added fats whatsoever, especially not oils.

You will still get fat eating a fuck ton of fruit. High sugar, causes insulin spikes. It especially goes for drinking juice, no matter how organic it is.

You will not get fat eating a ton of fruit. It's amazing how many times I hear this from fat people. I eat a high raw diet and on some days I'll get 3k+ fruit calories and I can assure you I am far from being fat. It's just not possible.

Still waiting for scientific evidence. I'll take it you don't have any.

Not exactly what you're looking for and I don't feel like really digging to please you but your question is like asking 75 years ago for scientific proof that smoking is bad for you. All I know is we should not fuck with nature. Good luck bros.

I never made the initial claim of how dangerous they are.

I'm sorry but but any caloric intake over your maintenance (regardless of calorie source) will cause you to gain fat. That's simple math. I would love to know how you are getting 3k+ calories daily from just fruit calories. You eating an apple tree a day? My napkin math calculates you at around 750 grams of sugar (3000 calories / 4 calories per gram of sugar). That's about 30 apples worth of fruit.

I never made the initial claim of how dangerous they are.

Now you're just being an asshole and playing stupid games. You said they are safe. You just take the FDA's and USDA's word for that? You trust fortune 500 corporations like Monsanto and Dow to keep the people's best interests at heart? Considering how much you hate the FTC I would think you wouldn't be so quick to suck the cock of these other agencies.

Show me that they are safe. Prove it.

You can't.

Simply not true about fruit and not getting fat. If you're consuming more calories and high sugar than you are using, you will get fat regardless if it's all fruit or not.

It's not simple math. A calorie from fruit is not a calorie from potato chips. Don't make me dig up the science for you, someone else do it for me please. Something about carbs getting stored as glycogen and fat getting stored as, well fat.

Apples are a pretty low calorie fruit I actually don't eat many of them. Mostly bananas, papayas, melons. Those are my staples and then I eat everything else in between.

That's how I roll

For a forum full of marketers who sell products on hype and not evidence, you sure love to fall for hype with no evidence.

Good fucking answer. That is really the only indicator of inflammation levels, and those are damn good numbers.

But you can't really be arguing that there is no difference between grass fed beef and corn fed beef? It's proven. The corn fed beef has been stripped of it's omega 3 fats. What do you think the corn products are doing to you? Do you not think omega fats and their ratios are important? Your principles of being able to eat whatever you want as long as you keep the portions right, is nonsense. I'm glad it's working out for you, for now. Can I ask how old you are?

a calorie is a calorie, it's just what you get with those calories. A calorie is a scientific measurement part of SI, it does not vary, it does not change.

Please explain why I am not getting fat by eating 3000 fruit calories a day? I'm all ears.

It would be almost impossible to consume the amounts you're talking about. Try eating 3k fruit calories in one day then come back and tell me how it went.

lol 4 of the top 9 factors "increasing" risk of heart disease are diet related
Processed foods, refined sugars, low nutrient foods must not have anything to do with the situation.
50/50 chance of getting heart disease in the US. Why not in every country? inb4 genes

Your claim is incorrect. It's very likely related to diet, but the evidence for Cholesterol or Sat Fat is poor. Stop relying on websites for your information, learn to read scientific papers.

Sat Fat? Recent meta-analysis:

Meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies e... [Am J Clin Nutr. 2010] - PubMed - NCBI.

No evidence found for correlation between sat fat and CVD /CHD adverse events.

Cholesterol? Japanese nationwide serum cholesterol study:

Changes in Total Serum Cholesterol and Other Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Disease in Japan, 1980

Average serum cholesterol levels went up, CHD/CVD incidence went down.

Low sat fat and high CVD?

Low sat fat, cholesterol diet, high CVD/CHD adverse event incidence in India (thin-fat Indians):
International Journal of Obesity - Neonatal anthropometry: the thin-fat Indian baby. The Pune Maternal Nutrition Study
