You don't get it. It's ALL about the corn:

Maybe mass food producers will figure out something else to extend their shitty food with.

Also hopefully this helps break the federal corn subsidy which is why when something happens like this we are so fucked. Our corn is so cheap other countries don't grow as much because it's cheaper just to buy it from us. Farmers don't grow a wider range of crops because corn is lucrative.

I think it's far more likely the feds double down on subsidies (see Obama above already starting the chain), especially in an election year (though they probably would regardless).

Wait I'm confused--you do know that while it might be raining in Hawaii, that doesn't mean it's raining in the midwest, right? Unless this was a joke that flew over my head.

Look at the map. Dresden mentioned this because Hawaii is red and on the map.. supposedly in a severe drought.

Also for majorly processed foods you'll likely see less of a hike, it's probably more preferable to put less in the container than to raise the price. It's and old but good trick. Our nation is fat as fuck, a few less chips per bag would be good. Possibly smaller restaurant portions to hold price points would also be good. Not sure I would freak out too hard yet, if we have a shitty winter again, I might start to worry.

And yet there are still some dumbasses who don't think climate change is real.

It really doesnt matter if it is real, you cant stop or regulate the climate.

Thinking the government(s) can pick and choose what the temperature will be on the globe is trash talk.

Govs and politicians use it to raise taxes and regulate everyone.... more gov control.

You are correct in your assessment here but then you stupidly assume that only the government has the power or legality to do something about AGW.

As an anarchist whose overall goal is to take all possible power away from all governments, I'm still afraid of the shitty world that we are entering into and the problem simply needs looking into & recognition.

I'm certainly not going to advocate having some fatcat create a cap and trade scheme or even a giant solar shade in space to fix things for us all... But if enough people are afraid of the problem, then they can form a private charity to solve the problem driven by donations.

calm down bros, corn isn't going extinct
Not worried about that; Only worried that a trip to the grocery store is going to get really freaking painful on our wallets.

Um, look at the maps.

The bad shit is in the middle of the country, hard to miss.

You know the middle of the country, it's the place we grow 99% of your fucking food!

You think Hawaii's imported food prices are high now? Lulz...

I'm aware goon... I'm not saying oh hell Hawaii rains, so fuck do I care? As someone who sees the downfall of this nation, I feel that an island 2500 miles from anyone would be the best position unless those volcanos go boom. So again, I could give a shit about a drought. It's not there, and everyone lives off the land there (hence 6 food markets a week in most places). So drinking, shooting, hunting or fuck it fishing, won't be a problem.

Don't care. Let it dry up.

They also didn't hear me say that the corn outside my window is all dead... :cool2:

Maybe it's specific to your parcel... Lol. Get some fertilizer and a bucket of water and gtfo of the sts section for a minute

Dresden, do you always value things in relative terms?

You should care if it affects you. Food prices WILL go up because it's the corn crop bro; that will effect you unless you decide to live off of nothing but locally-grown fish and pineapples.

And I you don't live in HI all the time anyway... Do you have no plans to go back to big bear this year at all?

Hawaiian natives suck (Kauai at least I assume on the other islands). Worse than a 3rd world country. They don't like you at all. Would probably LOVE to see you eaten by the feral swine after they jack you....

It's been in the fucking 50's-60's all summer here it just got hot today.

Buddy of mine in NE Kansas sent me these photos taken a few weeks ago.

Says shit out there is worse than more recent years, but not as doom and gloom as you and the media make it out to be. But again, you live out there too and I know all of fuck about the corn industry. Just adding some pictures. Look at them.

Wow, that's not what it looks like here.

They must have some great Sprinklers where those were taken.

Edit: This was taken last week not to far from me here in NE KS:

The field next to me looks a bit worse still.
