People have been discussing Iran & Isreal for too long but seems american media was slow to pick up this major news.

Your cars, electronics or anything made in china by a Japanese company is going to cost a lot in the next few days or months.

Its no more a diplomatic issue and has gone beyond the riots. Japanese companies have shut down operations in china as they are being attacked by locals.

China and Japan’s worst diplomatic crisis since 2005 is putting at risk a trade relationship that’s tripled in the past decade to more than $340 billion.
Toyota Motor Corp., Honda Motor Co. and Nissan Motor Co. halted production at some plants while Panasonic Corp. reported damage to its operations in China as thousands marched in more than a dozen cities on Sept. 16. Shares of automakers fell in Tokyo after protesters called for boycotts of Japanese goods and in some instances smashed store fronts and cars after Japan last week said it will purchase islands claimed by both countries.

Just kidding, first I've heard of it. However I did hear about pictures of Kate Middleton's boobies, and apparently Nicky Minaj is going to be one of the new judges on American idol!

Since I'm going to be visiting both China and Japan before christmas this year, I've been on top of it a bit. Fascinating history, actually.

It's been an ongoing struggle over a stupid little island that the USA rented out from Japan for bombing target practice.

It's fascinating because it's pretty obvious that Japan had soul ownership of that island before we grabbed it in WWII. It was a small, uninhabited, seemingly worthless little strip of land that was totally uncontested before that point.

Then after we handed back the 'title' of it to the japanese in 1945, we rented it until 1972 as a bombing practice target. We only stopped bombing it when we FUCKING DISCOVERED OIL RESERVES ON IT, and wouldn't you know it, suprise fucking surprise, china pops up and says "Oh yeah, that island was actually mentioned on some ancient scrolls from a previous dynasty so we would like it back now..."

LOL.

What gets me though is this reaction by the everyday chinese citizens... Why would they get so hot about their government missing a few oil drums? The propaganda machine must be in full swing on them, just like the MSM is over here.

“We’re not just protesting Diaoyu Island,” said Liu Lin, 53, who took a day off from work to demonstrate. “We’re angry because the Japanese did not learn their lessons from World War II like Germany . Instead they are trying to steal our territory again.”

Oh boy, I sincerely hope that you don't have heavy exposure to communism.

My parents have been taught that US is the enemy and I've seen villages of 2,000 people outraged and declaring Washington for an enemy of the village. By people who have only been doing agricultural work all their life.

Fascinating thing, communism is.
 
I'd cream over the day I saw nothing but "Made in Japan" stickers. Lets see how that China revolt works if US joined in and boycott China goods. OK, dream is over. Ahh fuck, the choice is still Obama or Romney. Fuckit.

China is a regional bully, they've been doing this to South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines and Vietnam. It's quite possible in the future we'll see a large military alliance between these nations to keep China in check.
 
There are a bunch of little more than "rocks" that are being fought over in that region. Japan and South Korea have a spat about a similar outcrop of rocks between them, and Japan is still bitter about the Island north of them that is now Russian.

China is just testing it's power with this though...seeing how far they can push it.
 
China needs resources, no doubt about it. It's also one of the reasons why they want the islands. However, Japan is a special case because of Nanjing massacre. Almost all Chinese from mainland China I know hate Japan. You almost never see big demonstrations in China against any other Asian nations except Japan.

Reminds me of the Falkland islands conflict between Argentina and the U.K.

Honestly though that Diaoyu island is clearly in Chinese waters so it's kinda logical that they would claim it, just like Falkland is in Argentinian waters. I know geolocation doesn't really matter for island ownership but still... I'd be pissed if someone who lived 7 blocks away from me came to claim part of my yard. #JustSayin

Except that there has been demonstrations against the Philippines in the past few months over the Sprataly islands and other similar island chains.

The island is 172km from Taiwan, 152km from Japan (territory) , 300km+ from China.

Do you think the nation the farthest away should have ownership?
 
The thing is, in asia most of the countries seem to have a dislike for Japan. I assume it is from the hundreds of years of conquest and war and brutal killings. The younger generation is less hostile, but ask someone who is 60 what they think.

All i know is since im headed to china to do business. I hope it all settles down.
