The Official Ammo Thread..

How about importing? Canada has guns, Mexico probably too (although not familiar with their laws) as well as the UK (contrary to popular belief, we have all calibres available, including 30mm if you really wanted to - although that'd probably be a bit hard to find :D) - I dunno about export in other countries, but here at least you can, although you'd have to find a shipping company that'd let you.

Why are bullets so scarce and expensive now?

Because Barack Obama and the Democrat Party are a bunch of fucking idiots who think that the way you prevent psychos from shooting up kids is to create restrictions for 99.9% of gun owners who already obey the law.

In 2010 ~10,228 people died in alcohol-related auto accidents in the USA.
Here's what I propose:
- mandatory auto insurance
- mandatory vehicle registration
- mandatory licensing of all drivers
- photograph and fingerprint anyone who receives a license
- behind-the-wheel examination
- written examination
- provide harsh penalties for those who drive under the influence of alcohol

Sound familiar?

"Why does a gun need to have a 30 round magazine?"

Well, cars can go up to 140 MPH. Most speed limits are 65-75 MPH. Why does a car need to go 140? Let's limit the speed of all vehicles to 75 MPH.

Politicians are fucking idiots.

Most countries no longer export to the us as they do not want want to deal with civilians. The UK makes awesome stuff, but it is impossible to get. Mexico exports to the us along with many other countries. There just is not enough for our civilian market.

Hmm, that's a shame. Have you tried contacting gun shops directly? They can export, and I'm sure if you were willing to pay slightly over the odds (but not the ridiculous prices mentioned in this thread) and said that you could buy in quantity (there's enough people in this thread to make it clear that's possible) it could happen.

Went to Wal-Mart yesterday.

No 9mm
No 22LR
No .223
No .40
No .45
Barely ANY 12 gauge shotgun shells.

Customers are limited to 3 boxes of ammo daily. I bought 3 boxes of 00 buckshot since that's all I could use.

What's your location? I'd buy anything I could find at this point.

So how do we bank from this?

I literally stock piled 10s of thousands of rounds. I only lack 9mm which bothers me a bit having around 2,000 rounds of this. I'd like to take it to 10. Anyhow, this said - 1,000 rounds of PMC .223 was selling for $300 even and is now selling for $950ish. I was considering selling fractions of what I have, but that would defeat the point of what I've always prepped for. I almost wish I knew all this was going to happen in December, I woulda dropped $10s of g's on this for mere business flippin.

Haven't seen 9mm, 223, 7.62 X39, 22lr, 22 shorts for months
.45 and .40 & .38's are available but limited

everything (shotgun & traditional hunting rifle rounds)else is pretty much fully stocked.

Fully stocked shotgun/hunting rounds? Where the fuck is this? All my stores don't even sell 22lr, 12/20ga, 30.06, 308 which are common hunting rounds :-/

I can't find almost anything anywhere (canton, ohio), about to make an online order this week actually.

Thanks for posting your location. Everyone else post your region and whether or not ammo is available in your local stores. Very curious about this.

Why are bullets so scarce and expensive now?

DHS has been buying all the bullets to use domestically, did you see the "targets" they bought too? LuLz.... Fucking bullshit.

Because the federal .gov has contracted with the ammo companies to produce billions of rounds of ammo to be used domestically.

Wouldn't doubt this... Government first, civilians second. You would think the businesses (as a business) would just hire more people and jump on the demand to increase profitability. But something is hindering these companies from mass-producing. Why enforce gun bans, when you can just stop the ammo?

Question: What type of shotgun shells do you all recommend for home defense?

Stupid question; anything dude. Is 12ga available in OC? And if so where? If not, what else were you considering 20ga? Do they have alot? I'll be in huntington this weekend so if some stores have shit let me know and ill def buy it up.

Can you legally import empty ammo? I'd imagine if you wanted to make some quick money and had the startup cash, you could import a bunch of the parts and have an operation filling them up (black powder's easy as fuck to make, although you'd need some machinery to get a decent seal) - doing the end production in the US should mean you can label them as made in the USA.

Now, obviously, this is a half assed idea I came up with just now, with no research whatsoever, may be totally stupid, I dunno. But may be worth looking into.

It might be 6 months it might be a year, but ammo will return to the shelves. The problem is even when it does the prices will be higher than the pre panic prices. So even if you do flip them, when you try to replace them it will be at a premium to your original prices. It will be years (obama leaves office)if ever (obama decides not to leave office ;))before they return to pre panic prices

As I said there is no .22. I forgot to to add 308 to that list. But yes 12/20 ga is fully stocked including buckshot, birdshot, and any kind of slugs. 30.06 is fully stocked, you can pickup as much as you want anywhere. As I mentioned everything else in the "traditional" hunting rounds is widely available. Ill try to get some pix for you next time I go to anywhere that sells ammo. Region is in the (Upper Midwest)

They didnt actually buy as many as you think . What they did is contract to buy. This is what has caused a big part of the ammo shortages. The ammo manufacturers are obligated to fill the .gov's contracts before they fill LE's and the civilian markets.

It costs millions of dollars & minimum of a year to ramp up production. You have to buy additional land or building, then you have to fill it with equipment, buy the raw materials, hire staff, ect. With a perceived short term increase in demand, its simply not worth it. Some companies will ramp up for the increase and either hit it big or loose their ass.

Modern firearms don't use black powder, they use nitrocellulose based explosives.

Additionally the hardest part right now to find is primers.

Commercial reloading equipment today is on a 3 to 5 year backlog. Even dies (stupidly easy to make) are on a 5 to 6 month backlog.

CCI states that 22lr is on a 3 year backlog....they produce 5 million rounds a day.

derp, my bad.

And ouch, that's fucking ridiculous.

22lr is VERY hard to find, still 3x pre-panic prices.

I have plenty in my stash and even some to sell, but just haven't been able to do it.

I have over 8k federal JHPs. I bought as much as I could find when i discovered my savage will do about 1/2" groups at 50yds with them all day long.

An ammo box of 2100 rounds of 22LR was available on Cabelas earlier today. Sold out in 20 mins.
