Why are bullets so scarce and expensive now?

Hmm, that's a shame. Have you tried contacting gun shops directly? They can export, and I'm sure if you were willing to pay slightly over the odds (but not the ridiculous prices mentioned in this thread) and said that you could buy in quantity (there's enough people in this thread to make it clear that's possible) it could happen. Most countries no longer export to the us as they do not want want to deal with civilians. The UK makes awesome stuff, but it is impossible to get. Mexico exports to the us along with many other countries. There just is not enough for our civilian market.
Went to Wal-Mart yesterday.
No 9mm
No 22LR
No .223
No .40
No .45
Barely ANY 12 gauge shotgun shells.
Customers are limited to 3 boxes of ammo daily. I bought 3 boxes of 00 buckshot since that's all I could use.
So how do we bank from this?
Haven't seen 9mm, 223, 7.62 X39, 22lr, 22 shorts for months
.45 and .40 & .38's are available but limited
everything (shotgun & traditional hunting rifle rounds)else is pretty much fully stocked.
I can't find almost anything anywhere (canton, ohio), about to make an online order this week actually.
Why are bullets so scarce and expensive now?
Because the federal .gov has contracted with the ammo companies to produce billions of rounds of ammo to be used domestically.
Question: What type of shotgun shells do you all recommend for home defense?
It might be 6 months it might be a year, but ammo will return to the shelves. The problem is even when it does the prices will be higher than the pre panic prices. So even if you do flip them, when you try to replace them it will be at a premium to your original prices. It will be years (obama leaves office)if ever (obama decides not to leave officeI literally stock piled 10s of thousands of rounds. I only lack 9mm which bothers me a bit having around 2,000 rounds of this. I'd like to take it to 10. Anyhow, this said - 1,000 rounds of PMC .223 was selling for $300 even and is now selling for $950ish. I was considering selling fractions of what I have, but that would defeat the point of what I've always prepped for. I almost wish I knew all this was going to happen in December, I woulda dropped $10s of g's on this for mere business flippin.
As I said there is no .22. I forgot to to add 308 to that list. But yes 12/20 ga is fully stocked including buckshot, birdshot, and any kind of slugs. 30.06 is fully stocked, you can pickup as much as you want anywhere. As I mentioned everything else in the "traditional" hunting rounds is widely available. Ill try to get some pix for you next time I go to anywhere that sells ammo. Region is in the (Upper Midwest)Fully stocked shotgun/hunting rounds? Where the fuck is this? All my stores don't even sell 22lr, 12/20ga, 30.06, 308 which are common hunting rounds :-/
DHS has been buying all the bullets to use domestically, did you see the "targets" they bought too? LuLz.... Fucking bullshit.
Wouldn't doubt this... Government first, civilians second. You would think the businesses (as a business) would just hire more people and jump on the demand to increase profitability. But something is hindering these companies from mass-producing. Why enforce gun bans, when you can just stop the ammo?
Can you legally import empty ammo? I'd imagine if you wanted to make some quick money and had the startup cash, you could import a bunch of the parts and have an operation filling them up (black powder's easy as fuck to make, although you'd need some machinery to get a decent seal) - doing the end production in the US should mean you can label them as made in the USA.
Now, obviously, this is a half assed idea I came up with just now, with no research whatsoever, may be totally stupid, I dunno. But may be worth looking into.
derp, my bad.Modern firearms don't use black powder, they use nitrocellulose based explosives.
Additionally the hardest part right now to find is primers.
Commercial reloading equipment today is on a 3 to 5 year backlog. Even dies (stupidly easy to make) are on a 5 to 6 month backlog.
CCI states that 22lr is on a 3 year backlog....they produce 5 million rounds a day.
What's your location? I'd buy anything I could find at this point.
22lr is VERY hard to find, still 3x pre-panic prices.
I have plenty in my stash and even some to sell, but just haven't been able to do it.
I have over 8k federal JHPs. I bought as much as I could find when i discovered my savage will do about 1/2" groups at 50yds with them all day long.
