US, S. Korea on high alert in anticipation of Pyongyang’s missile launch

Why?
China/Russia won't defend North Korea if they nuke Seoul out of the blue. NK doesn't have a single ally. Even China has now closed its borders to NK.
The "huge war" will be a war over in minutes, as North Korea is wiped off the map.
I don't think NK are stupid enough to do that anyway, they'll probably fire a few missiles into the sea, and we'll have a long drawn out plan involving traditional war and invasion on foot by Japan/the US/SK/possibly China.
Not only by the west, there are probably power struggles in NK too - Kim Jong or whatever his name is wants to make sure everyone knows he's a tough guy. Or perhaps those behind him do, since the fat man doesn't really call the shots as far as I can tell. It's not likely there will be a war, and even if NK nukes Seoul or a US base - how can the US nuke NK without completely ruining their allies in SK? The fallout could be huge in that area and the two countries are neighbors. Collateral would take on a new meaning.
Plus, China actually voted with the US on a recent UN resolution against NK. NK is just a dumb kid trying to flex its 1 inch biceps, all the while looking like a little spoiled shit we ought to deal with when the time is right. I feel bad for their general population more than anyone else.
I can't wait for North Korea to totally fuck this up. The whole world's watching, they'll launch a missile, and it'll just plop into the ocean a few dozen kms away. That would be spectacular!

Then they should stop launching missiles, and blowing up nuclear munitions, and I'm certain the international community would be more than happy to help them with their food problem.
Last time I checked, border security was a joke since our country is so determined to act like the world police and has zero interest in our own security. The mexicans are just literally, walking over. I bet so much shit comes through those shipping ports (guns, drugs, etc). I think its a strong possibility.
I think it has something to do with the funding that was cut off days before the threats came out. The us cut their banking ties to japan where he had gangsters sending money to north korea. Probably a lot of money.

I'm not trying to be dick, but I think I'd be OK without Los Angeles. As long as my peeps in SD aren't affected that is.
Even if they could, from what I've read NK only has 10kt nukes, which probably aren't as big as you think. The maximum blast diameter is about 2 miles. You'd need hundreds just to take out south central. And in the words of the great Ice Cube, when something happens in south central los angeles, nothing happens - it's just another nigga dead.
But yea, returning to reality, a lot of people would die in a pi squared x 1 mile radius area.
