I like Mituozos cumulative scoring idea. I think that not only should that be implemented but the person who hits #1 first for the keyword and the person who is #1 on the last day of the competition should also get a prize along with the person who receives the highest point value over the course of the competition.

Whatever the niche it should be one where we can take real money out of someones pocket. Really disrupt the niche. If by chance it's one that a contestant is in, he simply PM's the contest admin and we move down the list. Make it obscure enough and it shouldn't be a problem. But good enough where there is still real money involved.

I don't think the odds are that high of being able to find a profitable niche with no other affiliates in it. Someone is going to get stiffed.

Why? You're not competing against each other then, third parties get involved, and it messes up the competition. The whole point is to be able to do SEO in a sandbox that compares competitors like for like, without third party influence.

You make the SERP competitive due to the of the number of people that enter the comp, so it doesn't need to be competitive to begin with.

If you can get an affiliate network (or two) to sponsor it with some good prizes, you end up with an artificially created comp SERP, with money on the line. The trick is to make the competition worth entering, so that it'll at least cover people's costs.

I hear what your saying. Just look at the dog snuggie guy that owned the niche for years. We came in took it over and he want bat shit crazy. I wasn't the only one that enjoyed his misery. Just looking for some extra entertainment for my dollars.

Edit. I prob wouldnt go into this thinking you're going to be making much money (or even covering your costs) unless you pick something with some meat on the bone. I really don't care what we do. I am an action junkie so i just want to get in on the action.

Edit 2: If you really want a contest you would pick a real niche, run it for a year, and see who makes the most $$$$$$$$$$$

Edit 3: I am on board w/ the private keyword

People aren't going to dedicate a year to a niche and then out how much money they made and everything else. It'd be silly for them to do it for the sake of a contest, and not to mention near enough impossible to prove, unless you have an affiliate program in on it, that's the "official" program and they report on it and everything else.

You could still get people cheating though, cloaking other traffic via their site, etc.. SEO is easy to measure. You rank or you don't, and there's an independent 3rd party rank tracker that can be used.

Id like to give this a go. Count me in please

You will need (3) references and a dog snuggie selfie pic to be accepted in this competition.

I actually don't think the references thing is a bad idea. Otherwise you're going to have people just joining in on the action just to get some new strats written down in their notebook.

Folks still gona be able to study the comp SERPs regardless.

I'd love to take part, and I also think muituozo's scoring plan is great - whoever gets higher ranks for longer time wins.

If you're clever you can hide all that stuff.

I love to 301 when I cloak and cloak when I 301 so them bots are seeing what bots are not seeing so that mah links are not links but bots through the 301s cloaked innit.

Wait wat.

If there's a contest, I'd say:

Likewise people could just blast the shit out of a load of sites a few days before the end of the contest and get at least one to stick #1 or whatever.

As awesome as this strategy sounds in theory, reality will just make you extremely butthurt.

There's no real reason to worry about it. Keep the rules simple stupid.

I am also interested! See if I can come second last or something!

If it's an obscure niche that isn't SEO'd to death and back yet... it's not going to be all about link tornados and throwing the kitchen sink at a website... Everyone should have a good chance...I think more about fine details, since sustaining the ranks is going to play in, based off mituozos scoring system.

I guess it depends on whether people are allowed more than 1 site each or not, would vary the way the comp goes quite a bit.
