Purpose of this thread: for you to share quick tips that make your life better. That could mean any of the following...

- greater productivity
- tastier food
- higher rankings
- better musicianship
- improved relationships
- better sex
- more energy
- more muscle
- improved clarity of thought
- etc.

It might also include mistakes you've made - as in "don't do this."

I'll start.

Go to Google and type "set timer 10 minutes." Hit enter. It's an quick, easy-to-use countdown timer you can use to boost your productivity. If you work to music, you'll have no problem hearing the audio alert that's triggered when the countdown reaches zero.

Simple and maybe stupid. But there you go. (Note: I may be the last person to have discovered Google's built-in timer.)

If you have a useful tip, post it! :)

Is the timer working for you? Because it's not for me.
One G feature I use often is, for example,
time now Sweden
to know local time anywhere.

edit, I guess just time country works as well.

I've been using the timer this morning, so it's definitely working on my end. (Incidentally, javascript needs to be turned on for it to work.)

Good tip about the country time. Looks like it works for cities too.

Another G feature I use: "define [word]" - ex. "define convalescent." Gives the definition, along with synonyms and antonyms. Pretty useful for a dummy like me.

I was expecting to see a bunch of pictures of the ends of dicks.

Random tip: Good professional wrestling is a gold mine for understanding how to get people emotionally involved to the point that they want to pay money for something that was completely made up.

- greater productivity

at the end of the day, write a to do list for yourself for tomorrow, like you would if you had to write one for a lobotomized employee. When you go to work, just slave through the list without giving it any thought. when its done. go for a walk, then write the list for the next day. figure out what to do with the other 75% of your workday.

- tastier food

every meal needs a sweet, a sour and a spicy component. the simple versions would be sugar, vinegar/lemon juice and black pepper. thats why sweet sour sauce works. its a tastebud hack.

- improved relationships

quit trying to be some idiotic alpha bro. just listen to what theyve got to say.

- better sex

buy the book i wrote on it. or be more specific

- more energy

no carbs for you. seriously. they are a numbing agent

- more muscle

buy the book. or be more specific

- improved clarity of thought

learn the basics of logic. pick up a university level book on analysis, work through the first couple pages, understand why the proofs are proofs. figure stuff out on your own.

- etc.

be specific

Here's something I do for my workflow which has always helped:

I work on the 1 thing I want to do the most at the current time.

So like everyone else I always have lots of different projects and tasks that need to be done. Rather than working on the same thing over and over trying to force myself to get it done I work on what is most appealing to me at the current moment.

Let's say I need hire somebody, I need to code something, I need to design something, I need to manage something, I need to write something, I need to go somewhere and so forth. Rather than doing each task sequentially I will instead do what inspires me and what I am most excited to do at the current moment. At one moment I may be more inclined to write like crazy. A creative spark may hit me and I will just go on and on. At other times I won't want to write or do anything myself, all I'll want to do is rest and hire and manage somebody else. It all depends, and I try my best to go with my current desires to maximize my results. If that means only doing hardcore programming for 2 days straight then that is what I do. A task I might not want to do right now I may really, really want to do 3 days from now.

I find that I always alternate between wanting to do different kinds of tasks that range from creative to rote. The more rote tasks I usually listen to audiobooks and lectures on Youtube while I just work through it. The more creative stuff I usually listen to music and let the music set the rhythm of work.

I'm not sure if most of you do something similar to this, but I've always found that this allows me to find good balance and enjoyment in my work and life. Hope that helps :)

Nice, I agree, something I've been doing myself recently after reading about it. It's about procrastinating productively. Instead of firing up Wickedfire or Facebook when you really don't want to do a task, instead you work on some skill which is interesting, like learning coding, practicing a foreign language, writing a short story or blog post.

Here's 50 more.

How to be young forever:

1. Don't forget to moisturize, especially your face.

2. Laying down/sleeping often is good not only because you are resting but also because you are horizontal and therefore gravity does not have the same effect on your face.

3. Working from home is great because most of your time is spent on the computer, not emoting. People with regular jobs have to fake smiles and other various facial expressions all day long. All of those smiles add up and soon you look like Steve Buscemi.

4. Have sex with young women (18-24). Youth transfers this way.

You're welcome.

I'll Bite..

That timer one was a good one.

1 thing I do is when I first get up is do a load of laundry and set my "pomodoro" as the timer beep on the washer. When done, I know I spent roughly 30-40 mins on a task and then I take a "break" and start the dryer. The dryer beep is another pomodoro for me.

Before 8am rolls around I have already done 3 important ( for me ) things, which are 2 pomodoros of important work and my laundry for the day.

- greater productivity
Set goals for the year/quarter/month/week. Every day, you should eat a frog first thing in the morning. That frog should be related to, and get you 1 step closer to, your goal for the week/month/quarter/year.

- tastier food
drink water. the bland taste of water makes even dull food taste better

- higher rankings
Study the SERPs with good tools

- better musicianship
practice outside your genre

- improved relationships
you have 2 ears and only 1 mouth for a reason. Listening is more important than talking

- better sex
get more sleep

- more energy
20 min naps

- more muscle
rest days and warm ups

- improved clarity of thought
silent and quite time each day
- etc.

It might also include mistakes you've made - as in "don't do this."
Don't take on too much of anything in life. Its always better to be working "up to" something, than trying to "downsize".

Lol this is great, particularly 2. Don't know about the scientific validity though.

I forgot who first recommend this tip, but no shit, it really worked for me.

It might have been Dwight, but when I first was a member here, I remember a thread about heated baby wipe dispensers in the bathroom...

Needless to say, this one weird tip has my ass smelling like a dozen roses, the entire day.

^First time I heard about this thing was in Two and Half Men

To me there is only one productivity tip - write it down. 90% of what I read in this thread I'll forget in a few hours. ShadowCaster's picture still remains for a couple more hours.
