E! True Hollywood Story - Jon Fisher - Phase II

Jon;

First, WF changed my life - saved my life actually, so thank you for that.

I'll keep this brief. I've been very concerned about the state of this place since traffic here has dropped so much and a lot of the people remaining seem pretty lost with what they are doing. So I am glad you are doing something to try and revitalize WF.

Basically, what is your plan for the marketplace, in detail? Will the main marketplace remain part of the "free" section of the site, or will it all be closed to the public?

For that matter, I'm a bit confused. Is WF going to permanently have a free area, or will it go 100% premium?

I'm more than happy to pay for membership (I pay to post my sales threads anyway). I just want to get some idea of where myself and other long-time service providers will fit here and who our market will be.

Thanks for clarifying!
Kye

Wouldn't we have crapped all over this if another person was going to do a invite only paid private forum? How many of those have we all seen and watched die? UberAffialite's, Ruck's, Shoemonies, fuck there has to have been like 15 since I got into the business. How is making WF a paid forum going to be any different than the other ones? Honestly.

I would love to see the forum back to where it once was. Shit I spent all the time I wasn't working lurking on here and most the time I should have been working also. I stopped checking the forum because affiliate marketing its self changed. Back then it was easy money and lots of great ideas and people posting quality stuff. We had it easy. Then it got stupid and shady with the flogs, farticles, lawsuits and scam offers of the week. Because of this we killed the industry. The rules changed and suddenly it was incredibly hard to be an affiliate marketer anymore. I know I haven't been one for 3 years at least now and not by choice.

When it was bad and even now if you find something that works you hide it all to hell. Its not as easy as it once was and its us fighting for scraps/turff. When we are all against each other no one wants to post anything of quality. Affiliate marketing was for the most part killed off and thats what affected all of us and the forum. I kept logged in and checking on things but have basically only lurked STS for years now. There just wasn't any reason to hit up anything else. No one was suddenly going to start talking about some new traffic source or how teaching people how to make better Facebook ads. Bofu or some other trusted member won't be selling his seo/link packages suddenly our new reality. That shit is kept secret now.

So really I am curious. To me affiliate marketing is no where near where it once was. Back then the paid private forums tried to lure you in with some special secret knowledge that was going to make you money. This seems to be the same thing with many members happy to see Jon is back and active again. But is it the draw of him possibly telling us about his businesses and experiences like a guru forum? Do we all just want to see the same WF that we loved years ago? Can't we all just start posting again without having to pay for it?

I must be missing something.

That's a pretty good summary. Affiliate marketing was in many ways a bubble, built on unrealistic expectations. People figured out it's harder than it looks--and in some cases, made it harder for themselves and others by shady practices--and now the bubble has burst. This can happen in any industry. It reminds me a bit of the dotcom bubble. A lot of people crashed and burned then, but it's not as if the internet has gone away or others didn't go on to succeed. Affiliate marketing will go the same way I think, but you're right, it's going to take people speaking up again and working together again.

Part of the reason is that the shortcuts died, there truly isn't that much secret knowledge anymore. All the linkspam stuff still can work of course, it just isn't something the average joe is going to be able to pick up and use, just because he was told how. The price of expired domains for example lol and then you had the first movers who found them outside the marketplace, now everyone can buy that software. In the Enlightened Members there are those threads about Authority Sites and stuff. That's not secreat sauce as great as those threads are. Even with a full blueprint, it requires budget and a great deal of managerial skills.

More than that, there are just so many people 'working online' now. Every college student wants to run a blog, make affiliate monies and go to Thailand. Why share when you're just feeding a mainstream mob of gimme gimme millenials.

In response it seems most people are upgrading skill wise to stand apart from the mob, be it technical or otherwise. It's also all about connects, win-win co-operation.

In some ways its just going back to the old school way of learning the biz, face to face before we had all the phags who publish income reports and 'secrets'. You know, the guys making 90% of their income from their blog while claiming to teach others how to live off the 10%. Good riddance, what a bunch of Wafo assholes.

Exactly ... and now everyone is starting to realize that the remaining "secret" is exactly the one 90% of would-be marketers are not interested in ... which is hard work and patience.

Really this is what happens in every field. I do a lot of my writing in the investing niche. Probably like 95% of would-be daytraders fail because they think they've found the road to overnight riches. The 5% who make it are in for the long haul, and they know it won't be easy.

This is all a massive upheaval to our community and our world. But when all the dross goes away, those of us who stick around are going to have a chance to rebuild and create a community of serious professionals that will be stronger and more successful than anything that was here before. The key is to survive the transition. Talking about what's going on in our industry is the first step to that.

Correction, easy SEO money has died. There are plenty marketers on WF who focused on mastering paid traffic sources, and used their skills and knowledge to build successful online and offline businesses. The number of internet users has nearly doubled since 2008, and there are more opportunities NOW than there ever were 7 years ago. Unfortunately for you SEOfags, easy money doesn't mean building links and praying to the almighty Google (Money Tree).

I don't know how you guys are finding it hard. Most of the seo competition got nuked. Most of the peasants have left. Those who are left and are willing to put in the hard work and take it seriously will make a killing. Hell I built an autoblog a week ago for the lulz and its getting fucking traffic.

Actually, that was *exactly* my point, and you said it well. And I'd argue there was never really such a thing as easy SEO money. It was just an illusion. The biggest thing that has changed is that the reality is catching up with people who believed in it.

There are a lot of amazing people on this site, smart hard-workers who are willing to walk the long, hard road. Doesn't change the fact that the majority, not just here, but on all the IM sites, were just in it for quick cash.

This thread alone is an interesting case study in itself. As time ticks forward the windows and doors into what has been a free, yet life changing, resource to so many are slowly being closed. People wondering about the mystery, thinking about missed opportunity; the consequences of procrastination...no doubt scrambling to print taken for granted resources and insights out of Google's cache.

All the while wondering about the future - some arrogantly, some humbly, some wishing nothing would change - all wondering about their "position" in the coming brave new world where they are about to discover someone has moved their cheese.

It is like Noah's Ark and the rain has started.

^ these three really need sponges though, wtf are they doing?

If you noticed the lack of sponges, then I have some bad news for you. Good news is that you are probably in the right place. lol ;)

I find it interesting that people are "resurrecting" their accounts for this. I'm not one of those folks that were here originally, back to its roots, but for the last four or so years, my original account and this one have continued to post despite people saying this place is dying, and people leaving in droves. Maybe this particular account has outlived its fun factor, which is fair enough, but I still come here nearly every day to read and occasionally post (either account). I keep coming back because this place has taught me a lot, helped me make friends and connections, and hands down provides me with some grade A entertainment at times. Maybe I'm just a tragic wickedfire junkie , but I hope that Jon leaves the STS section open publicly to... well... shoot the shit.

If membership is going to be anything like $100/month, I definitely won't be able to afford that. Thanks to all who have contributed over the years as this site has given me so much valuable information to work from. I certainly wouldn't be where I am today in IM (as small a place as it is) without it. It's going to suck not having the valuable resource WF has been to me, but these changes are most likely for the better for the serious entrepreneurs that frequent this site. Good luck gay webmaster bros.

Hey I am not saying they are not out there. I see TONS of affiliate ads everywhere. Just saying that people are not as open to talk about things as they once were. Hence the problem with the forum.
