Ron Paul sent out an email to his supporters a few hours ago. The short version: Ron Paul is going to start scaling back his campaign for President and let the rest ride out.
Also warns that because Romney is out of the race, there is little chance for a brokered convention.
He said that he really needs to focus on retaining his congressional seat in his home district, and that's going to take time and money.
The real reason for the message however was to confirm that he will not run as a 3rd party candidate much to the dismay of people who hoped he would.
I commend him for sticking to his principles. If he did run as an IP or LP candidate, here's what would happen. He would get his typical 10-15% of the vote, and syphon off just enough Republican votes to throw the election to the Democrats, and the GOP would never forgive him. So I think it was the right decision.
It's obvious that we're going to start hearing less and less of Ron Paul in the coming weeks and months. I have a couple of hopes:
1. He is referred to and cited respectfully be candidates on both sides of the isle. They can learn a lot by listening to Ron's policies and could gain a lot of respect from it.
2. The GOP lets Ron speak at the convention, and is respectful about it.
I look at Ron Paul and his Presidential run as a very important seed-planter. I believe that during his campaign in travelling around the country, he planted the seeds, hundreds or thousands will get involved with politics and bring his ideals to every nook and crany of our political system, from local government to state to federal.
A somber but bitter sweet night tonight for Ron Paul supporters.
