Isn't it great when things just work?

Not sure why I'm posting this, but things are just going so well lately.
  • A forum I own is growing quite nicely, and I have another two that are doing fine.
  • High school finally finishes in 46 days so I can focus on this internet stuff full time with a friend who's helping out.
  • A free copy of Traffic Secrets 2.0 I won in a competition arrived at my door yesterday (yeah, I know WF members generally hate internet marketing courses and "gurus" but it was free, and its actually a really good overview I can show to my friend to get him up to speed).
  • I have a design I made being coded for a blog I've had up for just over a year. I've got a writer working for me who's writing some great content and I have a few friends who will be writing up some articles too.
  • I turned 18 a couple of weeks ago so Google will be sending me the money directly into my bank as opposed to my parents.
I realize I'm not doing anything particularly amazing but as a bunch of my friends and the "smart kids" at school are stressing about getting top marks in exams and then going to Uni for four years it's nice to be able to just sit back and focus on doing what I like to do.

<3 the internet.

How is highschool ending in 48 days? Last time I checked it was summer vacation and I've never heard of year round high school courses like in college.

oh and grats for real.

Let me get this straight: You're giving up university education for a blog and two forums, with no certain stream of income as of now? I'm not here to preach, so good for you!

Oh, no. Not at all. I have a stream of income from my websites. Not enough to live off really, but I'm making more than the average Uni student would make each year...and this is with zero work. The forums and blog are just a couple of projects I'm working on I thought I'd mention that I haven't even monetized yet. Once school finishes I'll spend 3-4 hours per day every day writing content, and launching a long list of projects I have planned.

And it's not like I can't get into uni at a later stage. But I won't let that happen.

Why couldnt you spend 3-4 hours a day writing content while you were in high school? Isn't school only like 6 hours a day? Why do you think you'll automatically make money now that you are graduated?

I'd go to uni man. At least apply. You can do IM nearly fulltime while you'rr there (even can work on it during class)

It's not that I'll automatically make money once school finishes, as I already am making money (and have been for 3 or so years). Sure, school itself is only 6 hours, but the time it takes to get dressed, go there, and come back home it makes it more like 8 hours. There are exams, homework, assessments...a significant amount of work flooding in that I'd like to keep on top of as I still like to go alright at school. It's really hard to spend 3-4 hours working on the sites as then I'd have 0 hours of free time.

As an example. The last time I had 6 weeks of holidays I had no assessments or anything. it was 6 weeks of doing what I wanted. Out of pure boredom I outsourced to India, had 100 affiliate sites launched within a week, made $1500 or so from affiliate sales over a couple of months and as sales started declining I sold it off for $2000. Just being at school is really a kick in the gut for me in terms of motivation but as soon as I had plenty of free time I was able to effectively make $3500 from about 2 hours of work.

Also, many of the sites I'm working on are based around niches that aren't popular yet, but over the next 2-3 months will increase in popularity quite significantly, and with first page rankings and growing traffic I'll be at the forefront of them. :)

It's not like I'm going into this blind. I've been planning for after school for some time. :)

Dave, the reply is too long, you're trying too hard to qualify yourself.

Keep it short.

100 sites to make $1500? seems very inefficient if you ask me..

100 sites to make $1500 + $2000 from the sale. I don't really see how it could be considered inefficient, I outsourced everything, so it only took me 2 hours of total work. Not too bad imo, but it was mainly a good experience with the whole outsourcing process.

Anyways, this thread is off track. Was just trying to make an optimistic thread and everyone's bringing it down!

Probably because you're getting just a bit ahead of yourself. It's great that you've done all of that, but $2000 is nowhere near close to being financially independent or stable.

I'm in high school (entering 11th grade this year) and had a site sold for $16,000 6 months ago, but that doesn't mean that I'm ready to leave school and go full time yet.

I understand people have their opinions and I don't think it's worth anyone time to try and justify why I think I'll be earning enough on a forum, but as I see it I've got at least 1.5 years to go from $1000-$1500 p/month to $3000-$4000 p/month as most people will be taking a gap year between school and uni and spend their time working for $15 an hour and then spending all of that on their further education.

I've got a number of unmonetized projects, a good amount of money in savings, and the leading sites in a variety of niches that are set to explode by the end of the year, and all I wanted to say was how great everything is going. Maybe I just have a different mindset and if I'm unknowingly setting myself up for huge failure then so be it, at least I'm enjoying myself on the way.

Best of luck to you then. I hope by the time I leave high school I will be financially independent enough to skip college.

I also hope in a couple months you post back here proving us all wrong :)

Hehe, I'll make sure to do that. :)
And if you're all right I have no problems with saying I was wrong, but I'll still make sure there is no need to say that.
