I thought I would share this interesting bit of phenomenon with you.

I have a particular offer I have been testing and through my conversion analysis yesterday I was able to determine one of my keywords was quite profitable. I reorganized my campaign around this one keyword and dumped the rest.

I'm happy to say that once the campaign was active, my very first click was a conversion.

Sure feels good to know there is some order to all of this.

I know what you're talking about, the same thing is working for me on a campaign I'm running. It doesn't really make sense to me though, how is it that out of all these keywords that are directly related to the offer with targetted ads, only one of these keywords convert? Everybody is seeing the same landing page but, only the people that type in a particular variation of the keyword is bringing conversions? It doesn't make sense.

I believe it has something to do with the psychological disposition of the searcher at that moment. I believe they feel a certain way and are more prone to search for that keyword or phrase whereas they would have searched something else at that moment given a different mood or attitude.

ImagesAndWords wrote a great post about ads written for the buyer's mindframe. The same principles can be applied to the mindset of the actual words or phrases searched at that moment as well.

That must be it then since these keywords are all closely related and none of them have a "buy xxxxx", or "purchase xxxx" anything that you would think a person would be in "purchase mode". I wish I could find out what is that's making this particular keyword convert but, not the rest.

Sweet dude, that once happened to me, but I didn't make a thread about it. It was actually a couple days ago.

Do what I started doing. Whenever I hear my wife gripe about stuff (typical women gripes about fashion, beauty, hair, ailments, etc) I usually tell her "go to Google and find the solution to it, don't gripe to me about it".

Then I just sit and watch. It's the best way I know how to get inside the average internet searcher's head.

ALL of my campaigns and adgroups are 1 or 2 word converters.

The psychology behind closely related keywords is crazy, it never ceases to amaze me!

Onetime my AdSense stats showed 1 impression and 3 clicks... I guess the guy wanted to try all my ads!

EDIT: I hate when I get 1 lead with the first 3 impressions, and then I think "wow, I actually made something work!" - Then, I get 100 more impressions and 0 leads. :(

I think I found out the reason this keyword is bringing all the conversions it's since it's bringing in the most impressions. All the other keywords are bringing in a fraction of the impressions. There's only 2 other keywords that are bringing half the impressions and those 2 are the only other keywords bringing in conversions (besides one-offs).

If I raise the bids on the other keywords to bring in the same amount of impressions I wonder if I'll end up losing money, since they require higher bids so then I would have to increase my conversion rate at the same time since I'll be making less profit. Before I even hit half those impressions, it's possible I could end up going through a fortune?

My ROI so far with this campaign is around 300%, conversion rate is 5%. Maybe, I should concentrate on keyword at a time. Although, I'm not sure how to go about choosing which keywords I should test, just pick any at random?

Anybody have any suggestions?

It looks like you are giving this some critical thought. That's great! My preference is to throw a few keywords at it, see what converts, strip the losers, add new ones. I continue to 'cull the heard' until I get some that are really good and go with those.

At 300% you definitely have some elbow room to work with though.

Try upping the bids one at a time and watch them very closely.

LOL at this line!
