So I asked Steve Hartman, Sr. Director of EPN "Why is it so hard to get approved?"

So I was at Affiliate Convention in Denver this week, and the keynote today had a guy named Steve Hartman, the Senior Director of Ebay's Partner Network, on the discussion panel (http://www.affiliateconvention.com/2...pic-bordes.htm) and in normal Dick Cheney fashion, I asked him why it was so hard to get into EPN.

[Note: This question came after the panelists (Which included P202's Wes Mahler!) spoke of 'black box' communications and network transparency, which I though was ironic given that EPN is not highly communicative or easy to get on the phone...]

Here is the question and answer:

Basically:
Have quality site done before hand.
Give as MUCH info about your biz and experience as possible, and why you'd make a quality affiliate.

PS - The guy is super nice and they (EPN) said they'd be open to doing an interview with me, so maybe we could generate some questions and send them that way!!!

The thing that scares me with epn, I hear of people getting banned sending legit ppc traffic. Did you get to speak to him at all about this?

No, put it in the form of a question though and I'll add it to the list of questions I ask when I get an interview from them next week.

We've certainly had some questions about the acru... we'll think about it and get back to you, Nick.

They're trying to stomp out the cookie stuffers, but hurting legit webmasters.

here is a question idea:

According to media matrix, eBay was the only top 10 US property do see declining unique visitors in 2008. What is EPN doing to encourage publishers to win back old customers with inactive accounts?

That was you asking the question?? :) Good stuff. To bad we did not get a chance to meet. Anyway - I think he gave out some good information - especially why they left CJ.

That hungover guy in the white shirt was indeed me!

Dude, what happened to your game? I thought you would have been good for setting up some mile high action after hours? Photos like this could have solved the EPN problem once and for all. Shame on you!

I'm putting together a list of questions you guys want to ask him, I will send them today at 2pm CST. Just include the question in this thread so we don't have 1000 different PMs

Ask them why they have such a boner for "thick" sites. There are tens of thousands (probably hundreds of thousands at this point) of sites on the net that are just store fronts, not editorial at all. If somebody wants to buy rare Beatles shit why can't they just go to a site that focuses ONLY on helping them buy rare Beatles shit, why is a dissertation on the Beatles needed? How in the hell does editorial content vet the potential buyer?

You may want to reword this into something a tad more corporate friendly. :)
