NC Affiliate Tax Passing in 3...2...1

People complain about taxes being too high, then complain about having to wait 3 hours at the DMV to get a license because half of the DMV office was let go, and they don't have enough workers. Unlike many businesses, the government (state, national, local) seem to forget about stockpiling money from surpluses to help in worse economic times, and instead increase spending unnecessarily or give short term tax breaks.
That is because the government has no competition, and so without competitive forces to incentivize profit seeking, customer satisfaction, long term capital management, government is an epic fail.

A business run badly, loses customers and goes bankrupt. A badly run government agency fails, and they get a budget increase.

The incentives are all wrong. If the DMV was privatized and the contracts tendered competitively, there would be very short lines.

here in SC we don't know what a computer is, let alone an affiliate. we're too focused on our governor banging a south american woman

HAHA, you think MORE taxes would help government services?!?! You got to be kidding.. its called a monopoly and no competition. What incentive does the DMV have to be "Better" ??? NONE, there is nobody to compete with them, nor is there any incentive to their employees to do better?

Took me 7 Minutes from the second I walked into the door of MVC (DMV in NJ) to get my license and out of there...They redid the whole building, hired a couple extra people...and it runs extremely smooth now...few years ago i remember it taking my brother 2-3 hours for him to get his license redone...so saying they don't care and enjoy sucking is not true...they fixed it here...and it's not that small of a town this MVC is for...about 200k residents...

EDIT: saw tvmatt said basically the same thing

A lot of states are getting greedy right now on taxes because they fucked themselves for years with massive spending on luxury things they didn't need and couldn't afford. Of course now that they can't pay for these things instead of cutting stupid programs that don't work they are going to pass it onto those who work for a living.

Had a big long rant, but it really doesn't matter. North Carolina is set to raise the personal income taxes to some of the highest levels in the nation (almost 9%), pass this affiliate tax driving companies out of the state with a 5% sales tax and very ambiguous guidelines, and perhaps worst of all forcing LLC's to file as corporations now for tax purposes (as opposed to filing as a personal return).

I love this state, but this would be a huge hit to my income. Combined with federal taxes jumping from 35% to 39.6% next year, we're talking about an absolutely enormous tax increase.

I'm waiting to see what happens and putting a condo/home purchase on hold until then. It'll be interesting to see how badly the assembly rapes affiliates in NC.

You'd almost think it was California. We're to getting hammered with taxes I think we're around 10% now for state income taxes, YAY! I'm sure we'll have that internet tax as well very shortly.

I am guessing the US just wants everyone making money to move offshore? I wish some of these congressmen and senators would live like a regular person for a few months and get outside of their bubbles they live in to see that they are trying to screw over the people but what will end up happening is they will bankrupt their state.

The IRS can tax your income for up to TEN more years after you move overseas if they feel you did it for tax reasons. That combined with being forced to renounce your citizenship is a big step to take.

Yeah, I'm already pissed off about Ahnold raising the state tax and this would just put me over the edge. I wonder if it's possible to set up an LLC in the British Virgin Islands so I can continue to live by the water...

If these idiots would just legalize onliner poker in California like they discussed, it could go statewide and produce a ton of taxable revenue.

California has affiliate nexus creating sales tax language in the current budget bill being discussed by the legislature. So we might very well have it very, very soon.

"North Carolina still seems set to pass its Amazon Tax legislation and Rhode Island looks to be the next state to make the blunderhead move."

Found that info on marketing pilgrim. Was actually thinking about relocating my business to Charlotte area but I guess not now.

I don't see what the big deal is. If you live in NC, you can still own a business in another state. Most people incorporate in Nevada, Wyoming, or Delaware anyway.
You don't even need to reincorporate in a new state to get around getting canned from affiliate programs due to tax issues. CJ and Amazon both judge by your mailing address, so all you need is a forwarding service address in another state. You can find plenty of services just by searching & they're not very expensive.
