So I'm driving home tonight and stop the radio on Michael Savage after hearing someone say, "there's a Google/Bing/Yahoo conspiracy against us". Oh really? So I leave it on the station.

The idiot ranting about the conspiracy is the owner of worldnetdaily, and he's saying the government has partnered with the major search engines to lower his rankings so people can't find out the truth about Obama's birth certificate...

In the same breathe, the guy literally says, "a few days ago we were number one for the term "obama birth certificate" in Google NEWS... then yesterday news outlets all over started reporting on it, and now our sites are lower and these liberal sites are higher".

I find it hard to believe that anyone who makes their living via a website doesn't know how search engines work (especially Google News). After about 30 minutes of listen to this crap I turned it off. At one point they were calling for a boycott of the major search engines and callers were supporting it.

How the fuck are these people even taken seriously?

Bonus: They actually posted an article about it.

As someone who made their living for almost two years writing press releases for Google News, this is just annoying as hell. I mean seriously... wtf? I know there are some hardcore Republicans on this forum and I know some of you listen to Michael Savage and visit WND... so I'm asking... why?

Google has been known to do shit like this. Google maps has shown their leftist ideology concerning Israel. Why wouldn't G do something like this. All the major news networks have made fools of themselves to push their leftist agenda..why wouldn't G?

I am not saying it is happening in this instance but it could.

P.S. Their is a difference between Republican and Conservative. Just like their is a difference between Liberal and Democrat

Funny you bring this up. I like Michael Savage and listen to him every once in a while and I happened to hear this same conversation today.

The more I heard the guest talk about this the more pissed I became. That's the problem with people talking about things they know nothing about - and this guy runs a freaking news site. Any Internet Marketer obviously knows what's going on and this guy has to be a douche and tie it into some massive Google/Yahoo/Bing conspiracy - yeah the most relevant, new and useful content ranks higher conspiracy...

It really does make you wonder how "accurate" these guys are when they talk about other subjects in the same tone of certainty and conviction.

There are conspiracies. There are people/corps/govs who will do whatever they can to win. But most conspiracy theorists blame every fucking thing wrong in their lives on some big conspiracy. It's pretty fucking pathetic.

Dare to question someone's conspiracy and you're literally called a government agent on a psyop mission.. no fucking joke. This country is gonna burn man. We are fucked fucked fucked.

Conspiracy theorists are a huge percentage of the population now IMO.

They're not doing it though.
jewwatch(anti-israel skinhead site) still ranks for the word jew.
jew - Google Search

Also, martinlutherking.org (another skinhead site) ranks pretty high for martin luther king jr.

In fact, they even posted Google: An explanation of our search results about the whole thing, citing their unwillingness to remove/damage sites with fringe opinions.

It takes a lot for me to defend Google in any way btw.

conservative talkers don't have the market cornered on saying stupid things w/ conviction, but they sure seem to do it w/ more regularity... but it's the current smugness of the lib talkers that makes me nervous for upcoming elections - if the right can paint the left as a bunch of elites (as they have done in the past) they'll wipe that smug grin right off the faces of the lefty talkers. not saying it's a good thing and i hope the libs can see what they are setting themselves up for...

First, using Michael Savage as a generalization for ALL Republicans is a bit much (subject: "Idiot Republicans"). It would be like saying Keith Olbermann represents all Democrats. Both are dickheads.

Second, I would point you to the fact that Google manually inserted a listing (a "Easter Egg") into their search engine for several years which listed Bush's White House Bio page for the search query "Failure". So to deny Google leans one way or another would be absurd.

I hate politics so much, and idiots like this make me mad too.

Remember that thing about the Chrysler dealership closings? Some republicans thought Obama was purposely shutting down dealerships that supported the republican party. And then Fox News had to run a story on it like every day for months.

Do you still beleive a politician really cares about whether he/she is repub or demo? They care about 1 thing - money for themselves. Our US political system is about 90% centered around protecting their own power and ability to suck money from taxpayers, lobbyists and "friends".

While the sheep all vote demo vs repub -- these guys laugh all the way to the bank for doing nothing but talking about things like this to get on the news, or to get talked about by other media.

They are good as hell at that, and damn near worthless of getting things done right that could actually help people and not go bankrupt while doing it.

^talk about conspiracy theories. They're not doing it for the money. There's a hell of lot easier ways to make money than to be a fucking politician.

Now.

Replace money with power and I might listen.

That was a google bomb, not an easter egg.
It's like searching for "french military victories" and hitting "I'm feeling lucky". Nothing more.

I am sure that Google doesn't have a conspiracy agenda at it's top lvls. This wouldn't however stop the wacked out liberal part time review idiot to inject his political opinions upon sites that he doesn't agree with.

Burger King, as a corporation doesn't advocate spitting on customer's hamburgers but their employees do it all the time

The point I'm making is Google is not conspiring against WND. Hell, they're probably conspiring to turn us all into robots for their future moon-base, but not against WND.

He's saying it's a conspiracy because a ton of news sites started reporting the same story and they (WND) weren't listed first? Well no shit, that's how it works in Google News. Fresh stories get higher ranks. Stories that are similar, but released at the same time by separate sources are ranked based on PR.

It's as simple as that. It works the same way with Yahoo News and Bing. Google is not censoring WND, all of their stories are still being shown. But of course I'm just a lying liberal hired by Google to debunk him. It's not like there's really been a trend increase or anything. Edit: Click on that Google Trend link... look at the *only* link being shown on that page. hah.

I've only listened to savage a couple times, but agree with the points he has made about Obama.
