What Bank do you like/work with?

I have USAA for my personal accounts. Their web interface is better than BoA. And they don't tack on ridiculous fees.

Currently have Citi for my business bank account. The only hassle with USAA & the biz account is that I don't yet have a biz credit card... so ad expenses are paid via my personal credit card- I then have to cut and mail myself a check to USAA to reimburse the expense from the business account. Thinking about moving to a business bank that is friendlier with payroll & ACH set-up. Def. not BoA though.

Business Accounts through both Wells Fargo & Chase.

Personal Accounts through HSBC, Wells Fargo & Local Credit Union.

HSBC Savings was awesome with almost 5% APR, but of course that's shit now.

I love my credit union, but traveling can be an issue with them as far as availability goes. I keep the big bank accounts for that.

No BoA here, which sucks. I hear good things.

USAA personal. Chase for business.

I think USAA has the ability to scan your checks front and back and they will be deposited the same day. Not sure though. Never tried this option with my account.

I use wells fargo. Their rewards system is fucking awesome. Most everything is free with a PMA account. Their fraud protection pisses my off, I set it off every 1-2 days on my business account. all I have to do is call in to get the card unlocked though

Everything I was going to say.

USAA does have that ability, but only if you also have all three types of insurance with them (life, home, auto).

This is really getting to be a sticking point since I have a pretty wonderful credit card line with them that I use but nearly max out on a weekly basis & don't get paid for 15-30+ days. Plus the $20 USPS express mail charge to deposit checks with them and the additional 3-5 days between when the network sends a check and I sign the check and forward it to USAA. = Giant Headache.

I guess getting on weekly wires would help to solve this, too.

This is true for USAA. They also have a kick ass iPhone app that allows you to deposit a check up to 10k with your phone. You take pictures of both sides of the check and deposit..then tear up the check or file it. It is awesome.

Oh man that sounds so awesome. Would save me a lot of time.

I use Bank of America. It's good but not great.

Anybody with HSBC? Good or bad?

I have an HSBC personal checking account - originally opened because I was an expat and didn't want to be OBVIOUSLY American in the Middle East by whipping out a Bank of America card.

Pros:
  • In-person customer service is consistently top notch.
  • They have banks in almost every major city around the world if you travel a lot.
  • If you have a sizeable account with them, they bend over backwards customer-service wise.

Cons:
  • There is often only 1 or 2 branches in any given city for them, and they're all city based.
  • Their online banking admin panel is just okay
  • If you call in to talk to anyone expect to be routed to an Indian with a thick British accent.
  • Fees can be larger than average.

I still keep a savings account open but use it sparingly. It just warehouses cash that is a pain in the ass to get to so I don't spend it impulsively.

This is BS, I feel for you.. I have the same problem but not every 1-2 days but it was happening once every 2 weeks for awhile.

The major issue with this is the fact that if my account is flagged for fraud and I don't know, I'm fucked when I use the ATM. It eats my card, and I have to wait 7 days for a new card to be mailed. This happened for 2-3 months in a row and I finally got the bank to chill out or I said I was packing my bags. It still happens now, but maybe once every 2-3 months but I'm scared to the use the friggin ATM now.

Personal - Wachovia
Love them. Been with them since they were 1st Union. In contrast of a post above, I have been able to work with them to find activity not on my online reporting.

Business - Wachovia.
Great service. I have a rep who is a long time friend and they have helped me consistently maximize their benefit to me.

I will add, despite my negative post about them, the Wachovia branch near me is full of nice and helpful people.

TD Bank (formerly Commerce bank)

mostly in the NJ/NY/PA area...great customer service...rarely have any fees and are always nice...

Anybody with HSBC? Good or bad?
Good. I would have recommended Citibank, until I noticed they were charging me $10 per overdraft, and HSBC never did that. There's only the normal interest charge for overdraft payments.

My business checking was Wamu, and now it's Chase. I had no complaint, but don't know how much I'll like the new bank.

i use a local credit union for pretty much everything, i have a BOA account but dont use them that much. IMO dont use Wamu, i almost had to get the lawyer involved with a dispute.

Well here's my experience and why I started the Thread:

Personal: Sefcu (upstate NY). They are a pain in the ass. Had them bounce two of my credit card payments (which sucks for credit score). Once because the money was in my checking and the credit card company was taking it out of savings. Those bastards didn't call, didn't say ANYTHING but charged me over $50 in fees. When I called them and told them I'm pissed they were like: This isn't our fault, we don't take money out of the Checking to balance the Savings (they do the opposite though...). I know it's not their fault, but if they'd provide any fucking service, they should have called me up and asked me about it or just transfer the fucking money. That charge comes out twice a month so it wasn't a huge one time charge.
Second time was some fucking technicallity about how many withdraws from savings, and cost another $50.

The second bank that just pissed me off was Keybank. I overdrew a debit card (was trying to empty it out since I wasn't using it a lot) by $7 and left for Switzerland about a week after. Those fuckers charged me over $200 in fees while I was gone! They did call but my phone was turned off. I called them up and complained and they did reduce the fees to $100 but quite frankly thats still fucking ridiculous for a $7 overdraft.
I closed the account yesterday.

Am I overreacting or is expecting some decent service from a bank just not possible?
